A Great Example! This ring was found at a Roman site in Ancient Thracia and dates from 500- 700 AD and it's engravings are Byzantine in style. The bezel is a thick rounded shape that measures. 12mm X 10mm with a little lip decoration. This ring gives us a nice motif of an early Christian cross. The design on the bezel is a well executed"Trefoiled" Cross. The term"trefoil" refers to the three circles at the end of each ... morearm of the Cross. This is a pattern that was added to the Cross to represent the Holy Trinity. This is a nicely executed and noticeable Cross. This design was done expertly and is nicely framed by four pairs of light rays. I believe that this design was done on a much older ring which is most probably from the Roman Era. Because of the bezel shape. It's original Pagan design was replaced with a more desirable Christian motif. This ring is INCREDIBLY solid and both the color and shine are 1st Rate and it comes in a larger size that we do not usually see on these rings. Look at this Ancient Beauty that was found near a Celtic settlement site in the Danube Valley and dating from about 300 B.C. during the LaTene Period This ring features a 16mm X 10mm bezel in the classic"eye" shape which has a crisp engraving done in a style that was popular for many centuries before the Roman conquest of the Celtic lands. The center of the ... moredesign has a stylized"Animal Hide" symbol that is flanked to either side by a pair of branches and linear shading designs. Engraved in the center of the"hide" are some of the strange symbols that a lot of people think are some type of RUNES. Even though they DO resemble some of the Ancient Runes. I believe that they are some other sort of Magical Symbols or Script and the fact that they look like Runes is a coincidence or they could be some of the earlier Runes used by the Huns. I have NEVER seen this exact inscription ANYWHERE before and it must be a one of a kind that was used for a specific magical purpose. Although I cannot be sure of exactly what it was used for. In addition to the nice bezel engravings. There are nice linear decorations on both shoulders of this ring. For a ring that has seen much loving use over the course of it's existence, it has a remarkable shine and a well lived-in look the ring has wandering curves which are silky smooth. In gilt bronze with bleu turquin marble. Produced in Paris in the late 19th century, enamel dial signed"Ch. Gautier/ Ft de Bronzes/ Paris-Bordeaux" Removal of one bronze mount reveals the engraved mark"C+P" in the bronze. Clock measures 22.2 in(56.5 cm) tall. Overall condition is good. Candelabras have one and three screws missing, respectively. One candelabra lacks a rosette mount to block corner of the base. One bobeche liner has been replaced. Antique Japanese Kagami 24.cm long. 16.4cm diameter mirror face Signed on side FUJIWARA CHIKASHIGE This beautiful old mirror was made by Fuijiwara Chikashige. It is made of bronze and has a relief picture of cranes. Turtles, pine tree and bamboo, along with the maker's signature on side. It is dated from the Edo period c.1750- 1850. The national symbol of France, wearing the Revolutionary hat, bonnet phyrigien. The obverse, containing a garland, is signed by Henri Dubois. The word"bronze" accompanied by the appropriate French mark, appears on the edge. F3134} You could make an interesting collection of medals featuring Marianne. If so. From my experience, this is one of the rarest types. Henri Alfred Auguste Dubois was born in Rome. Italy in 1859. The son of the medallist Alphée Dubois studied under his father, Chapu, and Falguière. In 1878 Dubois competed for the Prix de Rome for which he received a second prize award. Along with the indication that this was awarded by the French Electrical and Gas Company. This piece is signed by Henri Dropsy. It has a diameter of about 55 mm and weighs 75 grams. New York, NY on 15 April 1994 for $283,711.78 for scrapping. N.R. Acquisition then subcontracted the actual scrapping to Wilmington Resources of Wilmington, NC. This is a 30-piece set which includes: 8 forks. 8 spoons, 8 knives, 1 serving knife, 1 serving fork, 3 other service pieces(fork, flat spoon and an oblong shaped spoon) All pieces are in great condition though they may need polishing. Each piece is Stamped SIAM. This set was purchased for me by my brother when he was stationed in Thailand in1970. He called it a picnic set. The pieces have the distinct Thai/Siamese flared design and have wood handles. The serving pieces have the bronze part of the handle in a twisting design. The display case they come in is in good condition, but is missing the handle. T he latches are intact and hold the case closed. The case is a very simple wood case. It weighs about 8.5 lbs. and measures approx. 21.5" x 6" x 3/4" thick. It is WW2 vintage, not a modern item. In very good original condition with no cracks, broken off pieces, or welds; finish is original- it has never been polished, sandblasted or cleaned. I don't know its original use or origin, or whether it came from Skate, another fleet boat, or other source. Vintage Willy's Bronze & Bakelite Made in Siam Lot of 3 Stir Sticks + 6 Forks
This sale is for a set of three bronze stir sticks& a boxed set of bronze mini desert forks. The stir sticks were made by Willy's in Siam. In the 1940's Siam became Thialand. Some people say these are hair sticks. But the smallest stick is 3.5 inches and it is hard to keep your hair up with that stick. Its also believed that the sticks are three different sizes for stirring drinks in three different sized glasses. The ends of the sticks are not pointed like a hair stick. They are nubbed. The forks say Thailand on them. All of the pieces are bronze with Bakelite(not Wood) handles. Bakelite was invented in the early 1920's and was replaced by plastic in the 1950's. You can tell if it is really Bakelite by heating a small needle red hot. Place it in a crack of the wood looking material. If it smells like burning hair, it ... moreis Bakelite. All of these items are from the 1930's- 1950's.
