Dewi Tara is shown holding her ussual attribute, a lotus flower at her left shoulder and holding the stem in her left hand with her right hand held in mudra. This large bronze has great details and a fine patina. It is cast using the lost wax method and measures 38 cm in height including the mounting tangs.

Ancient and splendid image of the Lord Buddha in the Dvaravati style, cast in bronze in Thailand. I acquired him. As I did another Buddha which I previoulsy listed here, at an estate sale of a gentleman who was employed by the State Department and posted to Southeast Asia in the early middle years of the last century. His widow said that he acquired almost all of his items from a very respectable dealer in Bangkok and showed me the notebook in which he kept notes on all of his finds. For this Buddha he noted that he was"unearthed from a collapsed Stupa, in the central region of Thailand. The relic was discovered amongst similar images of different ... moresizes, buried beneath the stupa rubble. The figure remains in its original condition as found, with stylistic considerations indicating an age of 350 years old or earlier" This was well before tight controls were put on excavations in Southeast Asia and this Buddha entered this country before the prohibitions against the export of antiquities were in place. The fact that this figure was buried for so long probably accounts for the good condition in which he still is. The long time spent underground accounts for the rich coloration of the figure and also the accumulation of"schmutz" a very acceptable term of art) which I have been unwilling to try to remove for fear of disturbing the surface. I always think it best to leave these as they are. Our present Buddha has all of the hallmarks of what is called the Dvaravati style. Dvaravati refers to a kingdom situated in the Chao Phraya river basin between the 7th and 11th centuries A.D. The Chao Phraya River is the chief river of Thailand. Up for auction is an original antique Ansonia"Petite" Carriage Clock daring from 1904. This clocks body appears to be made of brass or bronze and has a gold gilt finish. Front glass is beveled and is great shape with no chips. No scratches or cracks. The face is a silver color and in great shape. Awesome ornate decoration on the clock. Has a handle on the top and marked by the maker on the face. The clock is missing the back key to win it up. I can not check if the clock works due to this.
