The secretary top measures 36" wide x 46" high x 10" deep and features beveled glass doors as well as two adjustable cherry wood shelves that are grooved for china display. The back is selected veneer. The top has gorgeous carving and a pretty finial. The secretary base measures 36.5" wide x 41" high x 19" deep and features five drawers and a drop front with lock with key. There are cubbies inside the desk base as well as two drawers. The drawers are very clean inside. This secretary was manufactured in January. 1980 and is in excellent condition overall with a few exceptions. There are light dings and one more noticeable ding on the front of the secretary where it drops down(see pics#10, 11) There are also a few tiny chips low on the front two feet and one chip on the very back side of the secretary top. It is not very noticeable when it is against the wall, unless you are looking at the back(see pic#12) The Ethan Allen name is stamped in the top drawer and the date as well as the item number are stamped on the back. Ethan Allen manufactures high quality investment grade furniture that can be passed down through generations. Classical Empire Secretary Bookcase C. 1840
Classical mahogany secretary bookcase of impressive size and proportions C. 1840. Completely devoid of hardware this desks cabinets and drawers are only accessible by key. The full freestanding columns flanking the bookcase have ionic carved capitols and turned bases. The plinth style base conceals six brass rollers. The case is made of Mahogany with highly figured mahogany veneers over white pine. All components are mortised through or dovetailed. Drawer sides are mahogany(denoting a quality shop) and bottoms are poplar. The sever style suggests Boston origin to me but that's just my best guess. Two original shelves remain the others are replacements. Finish is original and has been refreshed with a new polish, overall it presents very well(especially the color) with a few minor blemishes.
