I've done quite a bit of research and have seen very few with the"fins" underneath the armrests. There are some typical wear spots in the upholstery and some pits in the chrome. It is complete with paper towel gismo in the headrest. Ashtray in the armrest and the lift works and supports weight! There are 2 side by side pedals on the base of the chair, one for up and one for down. The motor operates very smooth and quietly! The rubber shroud piece around the hydraulic mechanism will need to be replaced. The power cord works the way it is but will also need to be replaced(works fine, but previous owner must have accidentally cut it and spliced it back together) This piece would make a great addition to any barber shop and it would be killer in a tattoo shop! Undeland was born in Norway in 1861; according to the US census taken in 1900 he was married to Barbara Undeland(married 1890) and had three children: Jennie. Edward and Mary. Though he came to the US in 1893 aboard the ship Italia, the census listed his immigration year as 1881; somehow Mr. Undeland either worked or had close ties to the Norwegian consulate. No rips in the leather, however the reclining back doesn't lock into place from what I can tell(I maybe doing it wrong, I'm not sure) and the hydraulics that makes the chair go up and down don't seem to work properly. It goes down but then when you try to pump it back up it doesn't go up. I am assuming these are easy fixes however I am not mechanically inclined and have no clue how to fix these 2 issues. Leather upholstery and re-plated all the brass. He kept this in his office for years. It does not fit in our house and I'm hoping some person or business will enjoy the chair today. From what we know. This is an early model Theo A Kochs Barber(Parlor) Chair. There are numbers stamped in the brass parts. I did not reference them for maker's mark i.d. There are no visual maker's marks or tags that I found. The i.d. as Kochs chair is cross-referenced with online sources(Kochs' catalogs, photos) and other ebay members with the same chair. Antique KOKEN Barbers Chair- Footrest Assembly. This is an extremely rare and very early Koken Barbers Chair part. circa 1800's. For sale is the entire footrest assembly shown- including both brackets. Original wood leg-back panel with original hand-sewn fabric and attachment post bracket, and footrest. This is a very early(1915) Koken Barber chair. This chair has been fully restored. The upholstery is button tufted glove leather. All metal parts have been chrome plated including the screws. The porcelain arms have been painted with PPG base clear automotive paint. The other porcelain is original.The hydraulics have been rebuilt including seals and springs. The chair functions as new. We are pleased to offer these beautiful and VERY RARE KOKEN arm chairs. Koken was a top manufacturer of barber chairs and the quality of these chairs is simply outstanding. KOKEN reception chairs are extremely rare and hard to find. The chairs came from an old barber shop and date to 1964(were purchased when the shop opened) They are EXTREMELY nice and well constructed. The chairs have a solid wood frame which is bolted together with large hardware(very nice aesthetic detail) The wood has been finished in a very dark chocolate to black stain which does allow the graining to be seen. The backs and seats feature STUNNING. Very modernist, tree bark patterned SUPERIOR quality vinyl. The vinyl is very similar to the fabric used for the old barber capes and the chairs have a very high stain resistant factor. The chairs were designed to be easily ... morewhisked or dusted so that nothing would stick to the fabric. We have 4 chairs available. The chairs are weighty and VERY STURDY with the quality you would expect from KOKEN. They are in very nice condition. There is some wear to the stained finish from almost 50 years of use. The design is on the front and the back. The box measures 5"x 5"x 6"high. I do have the individual rolls available for sale on another auction here on ebay(see pic 7) These are insanely rare, get em while you still can! Condition As you can see by the pictures this box is not mint.
