We are pleased to offer this VERY RARE AND OLD. C1900, Arts and Crafts, Mission, antique fireplace tool set. This MASSIVE piece(51" tall) is fashioned of bronze or very heavy brass. It is loaded with intricate details and interesting design throughout. The focal point of the set is the very large, exceptional Spanish galleon. The clipper ship is marked"Don Fernando" with a 2 lion coat of arms or crest above the name. The ship features 3 flags on the upper section and 4 large opened sails with two large sails still raised/folded. There is a large flag on the stern, and a large, mermaid figurehead on the bow. There are detailed"sea waves" below the ship. Beneath the sea waves is a long, horizontal piece upon which are the fireplace tool hanger attachments. There are 5 hangers/attachment hooks, one for each tool. Encircling ... moreeach hook is a nondistinct cherub face with long wings that turn upward and create a medallion effect around the cherub faces. The fireplace tools are all original and have the ship's design repeated at the top of each. The tools include the shovel. Poker, broom, tongs, and a footed, beautifully patterned trivet(in case you want to cook in your fireplace) The center column and 3 footed stand are fashioned in a barley twist pattern. The top of the column is finished in a"pretzel" type design. The bottom of the center column has an ornate accent piece from which extend the 3 twisted legs and simple feet. The brass/bronze has gilted accents on the"twist" design of the legs. This is an incredible piece. Extremely rare and in amazingly good condition for its antiquity. The piece is very sturdy and the tools in good condition. There is aging to bronze/brass patina. This is not an iron piece as no magnet will attach to it at any point. THIS IS A MASSIVE SET. We are pleased to offer this INCREDIBLE pair of OLD. Arts and Crafts Mission style and period, andirons. This pair is striking and features very detailed hand forged heavy iron. The patterning includes a hammered"notched" design which is random in direction and provides nice interest. The iron has nicely exaggerated and substantial curved legs with a 3 point leaf in between. The bodies are fluted and taper upward to the top finial design. The iron has been gilded. This gorgeous pair is in very good condition for the age(c1900) There is an aged patina as the gilded finish has dulled although it is still present in the light. The back side is a rusted patina. Offered for Auction: Lovely Simple Arts& Crafts Style Pottery Flower Frog. A helpful member of the eBay community has identified this as Roseville Pottery. However it's unmarked. The flower frog is in a light matte green finish over a reddish brown glaze base coat yielding a verdigrised copper effect. There are 11 holes in a star pattern and there are 3 divots around the edge of the base for drainage. I do not have the corresponding shallow bowl. Condition: Good given its age with no cracks. Chips or repairs, however there is some crazing in the glaze and there is a very slight scratch which shows the white clay as shown in the last photo. As with any hand made item there are flaws and imperfections, the surface is irregular and uneven. There are varying shades of green and brown as shown. There are three small points of exposed un-glazed ... moreclay on the bottom from when it was produced. The frog is not perfectly round and the thickness varies. The frog measures approximately 3 1/2" in diameter and 1 1/2" H and it weighs 15 oz. This is a beautiful. Rich and colorful vase from Door Pottery, founded by Scott Draves, one of the original partners of Ephraim Faience. It was made in a very limited edition, and is now retired. Based on rare originals by SEG pottery, this vase would make a wonderful addition to an existing collection, or a centerpiece for someone looking to build one. As shown in the photos, there are a few white spots on one side. I can't tell if they are paint or scratches, but you can turn that side to the wall and forget about them! This bowl has a fabulous arts and crafts glaze. I think this drippy. Crystalline brown glaze is considered to be either cat's eye flambe or copper dust, but I'm not sure which. This piece stands about 3 1/2 inches tall, and it is about 16 1/4 inches long by 10 1/4 inches wide. It weighs about 4 1/4 pounds, unpacked. This pot would be a great addition to a vintage American art pottery collection. Identification This vintage piece is unmarked. It is Fulper pottery from New Jersey. Condition This piece looks very good. With no cracks or repairs. The interior bottom has some fine crazing; there are two very minor indents to the interior bottom, as made. This is an incredible vintage arts and crafts pottery vase by Weller Pottery from its Dresden Line done and signed by Levi Burgess. The vase is beautiful and depicts a landscape with a series of 5 windmills(in varying sizes) in the background with what looks like a Danish Woman walking(it appears she is wearing wooden shoes) There may also be some ships in the distant background with billows of smoke above them. Arts and Crafts Rookwood Dish, Circa 1914
Almost 100 years old! This is a unique Rookwood dish(or shallow bowl) that features three buttresses-great arts and crafts design. The color is a medium matte brown with a faint speckle. It's possible that the piece was meant to be an ashtray. However there are no grooves in it. The bottom is clearly incised with the Rookwood symbol and the year(1914) along with the letter"X. It is my understanding that this is indicative of an imperfection that rendered the piece a"second" see"Condition" Dimensions: The dish is about 6 1/4 inches in diameter(including one buttress) and 1 1/2 inches high. Condition: Excellent-no chips. Cracks or repairs. The thing that probably gave it the"X rating" is the small dent and discoloration shown in the 3rd photo. It is framed in a beautiful oak frame to compliment the pottery and furniture of the period. A cut out circle in in the back of the frame shows the maker of the tile. Here we have a super arts and crafts hand tooled and applied leaves and etched tulips. This a mold piece in the catalog reprint, quite often used as a blank where different artists would apply or etch designs into the vase, surprised there is not an artist mark, marked on base, very good cond with 3 minute flea bites on the high points of the leaves, looks a little like a grueby vase, 5 1/4" tall and 7 1/2" diameter! Up for bids is this awesome shaped marked Rookwood Pottery Antique Olive Green glaze slip case shape 778 vase. It is classic in form with a bulbous bottom and slender trumpet shaped neck. Antique Olive Green is a antique bronze. Semi-translucent, gloss glaze. It is beautiful with the darker tones of green and black that run through and fade into each other giving it dimension. The intentional crackling or crazing of the glaze adds to its charm! This form was cast from experimental mold T914. The T914 mold was introduced on January 1. 1895. Please reference'The Second Book of Rookwood Pottery' by Herbert Peck page 85. It is marked on the bottom with the RP mark. Roman numeral L denoting 1950, the shape#778. A wheel ground X and an impressed circle. I was informed by an appraiser from Antique Roadshow that the RP mark has no flames ... morearound it because pieces from this period are often marked that way. Especially when there is not enough room for the full mark. The X denotes it was sold as a second presumable because of the ash mark on the inside. The impressed circle was applied to the bottom of a vase that might be used for a lamp. It is always in the absolute center of the bottom and was placed there by the potter as a guide for drilling a hole to convert the vase to a lamp. This vase is 10" tall; bulge is 5" With a 2 1/4" base diameter. It is in excellent condition with no cracks. Chips, nicks or repairs. The production ash burn on the inside would not be noticeable if flowers were inserted(picture 9) This one obviously has been kept in a showcase as there are no scratches; it is clean and shows no wear! For Auction I have a very nice Art Pottery Vase made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs. Colorado. The Vase is done in a Popular Two Toned Glaze. The Vase is a nice size as it stands 7 9/16" tall and is 4 1/2" in diameter at the shoulder. The Vase has a wonderful Pattern of Embossed Arts and Crafts Stylized Vertical Leaves. These leaves somewhat resemble Tobacco Leaves. The Vessel is Cylindrical in shape and sits on a round shallow foot. These Wide Tall Leaves start just above the bottom roll on the vase and rise up to the lower neck or upper roll. The detail and crispness of the leaves is just splendid. The Vase displays a wonderful Two Toned Glaze. The background of the Vase is a deep Matte Mulberry or"Burgundy" Glaze. It is accented with a Speckled Country Blue overspray on top of the Leaves. This Vase is known as a"Stylized Iris" Flower Vase and it is Shape number#167 in The Van Briggle Catalog Line. The Vase is an impressive size as it stands 13 1/4" tall and is approximately 7" in diameter outside handles measurements. The top opening is 1 3/4" in diameter inside and 2 1/4" outside measurement. This Vase is done in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as"Mountain Craig" Brown. The Vase depicts 2 stylized Iris flowers. One on each side. Both one of these Flowers have vertical raised stems that rise up from the bottom to the bottom of each flower. Next to these stems are embossed or raised leaves. They start out narrow at the bottom and appear to be ... moreRibbing but they expand to leaves once they reach the top the of the vessel. The matte brown background glaze along with the sage green over spray on the flowers gives this piece that earthy realistic appearance. There are 2 applied looped handles at the bottom giving this vase it stable appearance. This piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks. Chips, nicks or dings. The inside of the vase shows minimal wear. There are a few minor glaze pin pops along the top portion of the vase. This piece is signed on the bottom with the Impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo Mark along with"VAN BRIGGLE" in large Block Letters. This mark helps date this wonderful piece of Art Pottery. The Mountain Craig formula was lost in the 1935 Flood and none were made after this date. This vase was made in the late 1920's early 1930's This is a wonderful hard to find form in any condition. In 1899, it was founded and edited by Adelaide Alsop Robineau, one of the premier ceramicists in America, and creator of the famed"Scarab Vase" Robineau was a tireless promoter of the studio pottery and china painting movements, and her magazine is a valuable source of information on potters, techniques and potting-related news and designs of the period. The issues feature numerous b/w illustrations as well as some with beautiful color plates(not all have ... morecolor) There are examples in some magazines from famous artists of the time like the Overbeck sisters, Marblehead, Carlton Atherton, Albert Heckman, Ida Wells Stroud, Jetta Ehlers, Eva Brook Donly, Henrietta B. Paist, and schools like Newcomb College, Fawcett School of Industrial Arts, Lake Erie College and many more.
