For your consideration is a 17th century bronze skull and bones applique in fine condition. This piece was likely attached to the bottom of a 17th Century Crucifix from a Monestary. But it could have been attached to something else as well. It measures 36mm across. The skull and bones was not always associated with pirates. Poison, and evil. It was used by the Templars/ Monks as a reminder that we are but flesh and bones and that we will die one day. It also meant to stay in the spirit and avoid fleshly desires that offend God. Ancient Medieval Bronze Catholic or Jesuit Priest Signet Ring 14th to 15th C.
For your consideration is a fine Medieval bronze signet ring that dates from the 14th to 15th century. The ring depicts the letters IHS. A crusader type cross, and what seems to be an olive branch. IHS is a monogram for Jesus Christ that has been used since the first century. The Roman Catholic Church is most known for using it; although a lot of other Christian sects used it as well. Such as in Byzantium, and later in The Russian Orthodox Church. This ring measures 19.5mm on the inside diameter. Cursory cleaning was performed to get the debris off of it from excavation. And to be able to read the monogram and other etchings, but the inside was not touched. This ring could be fully restored further or be left as is. It is fully wearable. And in great condition for it's considerable age. It still makes a fairly good seal! Thanks for viewing ... morethe auction!
