I have noted in my description of condition above that one of the rush bottom seats on this set is broken through, and simply replaced at present with a wood board underneath the seat cushion. Late 19th century Jacobean revival style oak dining room set, finely carved
There is an interesting history to this furniture. We"inherited" it over 20 years ago when we purchased the home of its owner who had inherited it from his aunt. She had been a member of early Hollywood society. According to the written history he provided us. Charlie Chaplain, Mario Lanza, Tyrone Power, and possibly John Wayne, among others, had been dinner guests. She had originally bought it at a Sotheby's auction in the 1920's for her New York penthouse before she moved to Beverly Hills. We have taken great care with it, and it is in excellent condition. The 12 piece solid oak set was beautifully crafted by Mandel Bros. Fine Furniture. Chicago, est. 1855. The chairs are cane bottom with spiral turned legs and ivory silk pillows. There is also a rack to hold the leaves to the table. The table has 6 leaves and expands ... morefrom 54" to 120. The top has a 2" carved border. And the corners are cut at a 45 degree angle. There are 7 spiral, turned legs connected by highly decorative carved panels. There are 6 side chairs and two armed chairs. The china cabinet has a fold down locked front containing two drawers. It has glass shelves with a mirrored back. The large buffet is 84" long with 3 drawers and a lower display shelf. Same intricate carving. The smaller buffet is 48" long with two drawers and a lower display shelf. We use it as an entry table with mirror above. Table has 9 original leaves, 2 with skirts that measure 12 inches wide and 7 plank leaves that measure 8 1/2 inches wide. Table when fully extended will measure 143 1/2 inches. Antique Hand Carved 1800's French Oak Dinning Set
This is a beautiful set that has been family owned for approximately 200 years. The initials of the carver are B.W. My grandmother brought it to America from Germany in 1957. The wood needs to be refinished. The table and bench are perfect. Three of the four chairs had one leg broken off at the joint by movers. The breaks are clean and would be easy to repair. This is the reason for the low asking price. I have see other similar tables by themselves and bad condition list for over $20.000.

The set has not been touched at all so there are few of usual needs of a set this age. The seats will need reupholstering and will need some tightening up here and there. Otherwise this set is just fantastic with great upgrades. The table measures 95" long with all 3 leaves. 55" long without and 54" wide. The captains chairs measure 51" tall 26 1/2" wide and 20" across the seat. The other chairs are 45" tall. The hutch measures about 7 feet tall. 70" wide and. 32" deep. One of the griffins wings has a clean break that will need repair. The server ... moremeasures 47 1/2" wide. 39 1/2" to serving level and 58" overall height with a 26 1/2" depth. EXCELLENT SHAPE with 2 very slight scratches on far side of table top. See Pictures. Very minor. 6 CHAIRS: 1 Captain and 5 regular all hand carved and matching. 17 1/2" deep x 19 1/4" wide x 42 1/4" high. BUFFET/SIDEBOARD all HAND CARVED 73 1/2" wide x 22 1/2" deep by 37 1/2" high. Up for auction is a high Society Victorian solid White oak and Quarter-sawn Oak Chairs. This table is all original. Table leaves and chairs are all original to this table. Table is 48" x 52"and is 28" tall, however extended all the way out with all 6-leaves, this table is a monster 10-feet long. What are the best options on this table? You tell me! is it the hidden compartment to hide all the table leaves?
