For sale is an authentic reproduction of a late 19th century Ship Clock Maritime Clock antique clock faithfully reproduced from the original. The clock measures 11 1/2" diameter overall including the hinge and thumbscrew latch and is 3 1/2" deep. Glass lens protects the dial. The clock bezel is made of solid machined cast brass(not sheet) And the housing is cast in aluminum and painted matte black. The clock weighs about 6 lbs. The only difference besides about 120 years between this clock and the original is that aluminum is used for the case instead of cast iron, which is simply too heavy, and the clock has been updated with an accurate USA made quartz movement which will run for one year on a fressh AA battery, included. Vintage SALEM SHIPS BELL CLOCK. This clock is running and keeping very good time and can be easlily adjusted from the rear to keep even better time once it is set up on your home/office. In the photo below of the key you see the end of a spring. This is the broken end of the ratchet spring for the chime. The chime mainspring is fine and intact and the ratchet arm is too, but the chime spring cannot be wound because the ratchet does not engage. This could be a simple repair for a clock person who could maker the spring which has a"J" shape to it. Except for this spring the clock is totally original, the case has an excellent shine as you can see, the correct 24 hour dial is original and not refinished or altered, the crystal is thick beveled mineral glass and is scratch free, the inner bezel is polished like a mirror and adds great ... moredepth to the dial and case. The case mounting flange is 4 3/4 in diameter and has 3 mounting screw holes, the case body is 4 inches in diameter and 2 3/8ths inches deep, made of heavy chrome plated brass, the back is not plated but is brass and has an access door to adjust the balance beat. Included is a proper key. The movement is brass. Clearly marked Salem Clock Co. Germany, model) 400, it has been lubricated recently, the balance is lively and really clean looking but I do not know when it was last overhauled but it does not presently need it. It's a cute little decanter that stands about 7" tall and 4 1/2" wide near the base. The stopper has elements that match the bases cross hatch and'X' patterns. The base also has wheel cut pinwheel panels. I do not know its age or maker, could be older or might be much more current. It's in fine condition, no damage and no detractions.
