A Golden Illuminated Glass World C1948 by the George F. Cram Co. A fabulous golden colored glass globe with Arts& Crafts design influence. Illumination of glass worlds was a artistic process beginning with a hand blown glass orb and application of each individual map gore by hand. The result. A magnificent, warm glow that adds ambiance to any room! The George F. Cram Co. experimented with many designs and colors creating the Silver, Red, Black and Golden colored oceans mounted on a myriad of innovative bases. The more simplistic nature of this laquered wood mount compliments the golden orb. Created at the close of WW2 the globe displays the newly minted state of Israel while still portraying Baluchistan as it was before becoming Pakistan in 1947, both are noted in red. With the end of WW2 many of the borders were immediately reinstated ... moreand a rise of nationalism(one people, one state) created new states. This particular model details trade routes denoted in a clear, unusually vibrant red. These routes would play an important role in the resurgence of globalization that was hindered during the war by German U-boats, mining, and submarine attacks. A 10.5" Terrestrial Cram's Globe by the George F. Cram Co. Indpls. IN. A handbown glass orb with 12 hand applied coated paper gores with a laquered stamped metal semi-meridian slot mounted on a laquered wood base. The approximate height is 15 inches. The political borders displayed include; Siam(will become Thailand in 1939) French Indochina, Baluchistan with Pakistan in Red(1947) Israel(created in 1948) No division of Germany as yet(1949) A colonized Africa including French West Africa, Belgian Congo and many others. The condition of the globe is excellent with the only mar being a couple of spots of pink paint. The base and meridian are free of any chips or cracks but do have wear in the form of chipping laquer. There is a section of the center tape missing, as shown in the picture, but it does not affect the display quality of this piece. This would be a wonderful addition to your collection or decor. Map page from the 1892 Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World- M ap of Chicago. Illinois page measures 11-1/4" X 14-1/2" The reverse side of the page is a Map of Milwaukee. Wisconsin + + + There is some typical darkening from age and handling around the edges of the pages. But overall in good condition for a document that was printed 120 years ago! There are some water stains around the edges of the page(see pictures) All of my maps are originals. I do not destroy good books. But rescue pages from damaged and ruined atlases. I mail maps rolled up in shipping tubes for protection. Which I have found to be the best way to get the item delivered without shipping damage. Buyer pays for shipping outside the US. This is an original. Not copy or reprint, of Cram's 1901 map of California. The map was published as a double page in the 1901 Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World. The combined pages measure 14.5 in. x 22.25 in. 36.8 cm x 56.5 cm] approx. On the rear of the page are bonus maps of Utah and Nevada. Centrefold as published. Excellent for framing.
