Antique USGS Topo MAP Maine BUCKSPORT QUADRANGLE 1936
This is a vintage USGS topographical map of the Maine Bucksport Quadrangle.it is a reprint of a 1902 map done in 1936. Produced for the Department of the Interior. It measures approximately 16" x 20" and shows the Penobscot River along with towns of Hampden, Orrington, Winterport, Bucksport, Frankfort, Prospect, Verona and Searsport. The back side has a history lesson on the Topographical Maps of the United States along with a key of Standard Symbols and is dated 1928. The map is pretty decent shape for its age.it was folded in quarters and also along one edge and has been flattened out, though impossible to get the creases out entirely. It also has a bit of age yellowing and some small pin holes in the corners where it was pinned and has some age yellowing appropriate to its age. There is also some small writing in pen in the left ... morehand border which is interesting as it says, Mine on knoll(gold) 1/4 mile of N. End of Halfmoon Pond" It also has a stamp, Wright's 60 State St. Bangor, Me. in two places designating from where it was originally purchase most likely. This will shipped rolled up and protected. Keoka Lake, Pennesseewassee Lake(aka Norway Lake) Pleasant Lake, Highland Lake etc. Map is in fair-to-poor condition: the map has fold creases. Most of the left border has been cut off with scissors(probably to make it fit in a frame at one time) there is a 2 inch tear near Waterford along the left border, there is another small 1/4 inch tear near the center along the vertical fold(however, NO PIECES ARE MISSING) someone has drawn grid lines in a section near East Waterford, someone has written"Crystal Lake" in pencil over Anonymous Pond just north of Harrison, someone has written"314 rods ... moreto the inch" in pencil near the bottom right corner, and someone has written"Norway" in ink on the back of the map. The map is also yellowed(although not quite as bad as in the larger photos-I had poor lighting) and there are several smudges mostly visible on the back side.
