Antique Mid 1800s English Solid SATINWOOD Inlaid Marquetry Night Stand Table
This is an antique nightstand that is made of solid wood and appears to be satinwood. The stand has a drawer that is hand dovetailed in the front and the back. The dovedails are very fine and have an inscribed mark remaining from when the craftsman originally laid out his work. There is a finely inlaid checkered accent around the drawer front as well as the front of the legs. There is also an inlaid design in the center of the front door. The stand is topped with a piece of marble that measures 14" x 14-1/2" The marble is not cracked or chipped. But does show wear consistent with age. The stand measures 33-3/4" tall x 15-1/2" wide 14-3/4" deep. All of the wood is solid on the piece- there is no laminated wood or plywood. The screws in the brass hardware appear to be machine made and I estimate that the piece dates ... moreto the mid 1800's and was made in England. The piece overall is in excellent condition for its age. There is minimal wear consistent with age and some age cracks in the wood. The joints are tight and there do not appear to be any repairs to the piece. The back piece of wood on the stand does have a large crack as seen in the photos. I do have a bed that matches this night stand that I will be listing separately in the near future. We try to describe every item as accurately as possible; however. This breathtaking French nightstand was beautifully restored. This antique dates around 1870s and it is constructed in walnut. It has a detailed hand carved backsplash plaque. As seen in my pictures. It was imported by Thonet Bros. of New York. Fascinating Austrian gent who was commissioned by a famous architect in the 1800s to redo the Baroque Palace in Vienna. At that time. Which was around 1850s, Thonet had stores in Chicago, New York and abroad. He imported fine furniture, both that he made and purchased abroad to send to N.Y. City, the heart of wealth during the Victorian era. Please see the sticker that was found under the marble top. Size of this table is 31" high. 28 1/4" wide and 14" deep. The marble top was made about 3/4" to overhang. There are no big cracks or pieces ... moremissing from the rose colored marble. Some wear and a small chip on the back edge that cannot be seen, but have to mention. Remember this table is very old. You will see pictures of the construction of joints. One Family owned nightstand that I think is maple wood. Hand constructed with dovetailing on drawers and wooden pegs on top. Rollers on turned legs are all original and none are broke or loose. Up for auction is this amazing estate find Octagonal Barley Twist table. Circa 1800's with a cane/rattan top. I can't be sure whether it is oak. Walnut or mahogany, French or American? The table stands 29" tall and 26" wide. There is a small hole in the cane as you can see(I believe it can be repaired) The table is showing slight signs of age and wear but it is in very good condition and very solid. American Victorian piece and has VERY unusual details- all original. The little table stands 22" high and the top measures approx. 10 1/2" square. There are some light(minor) scratches on the top and it has a slight wobble if bumped but not enough to prevent you from putting your cup of tea or glass of wine and tv remote or magazine!
