It was made by Ford Challinor& Co who manufactured in Staffordshire between 1865 and 1880 Size: Approximately 4 ½“11 ½ cm) high by 4 ½“11 ½ cm) across the top Maker: Ford Challinor& Co Date: 1865- 1880 Condition: One handle is missing. There is staining on the base and part of the way up the sides– it looks as though it has been left on heat. There is crazing in the glaze and two hairline cracks in the top rim. I added the back with the standard as the original backing was gone when I got it. I could see where it had been glued to the porcelain back. I took an old stand up dresser frame and cut it to fit the back of this frame so it could be used. This frame measures 9 1/2" high and it is 6 1/2" wide. The oval reveal is 5 1/8" high and 3 3/4" wide. The condition of this frame is excellent. There are no cracks and no chips and no restoration. This colourful floral design water jug is made in Italy, and is from the late 1950's. Originally purchased in Europe during that period on travels. Overall condition is very good. It is made from a red clay pottery, with the floral designs'carved' into the clay, then hand coloured and glazed. It has an interesting pouring lip, with an inner opening used to'trap' larger ice cubes when pouring. There is no damage on inspection, except for a couple of tiny nibbles to the very front of the pouring spout. Any other'imperfections' are in the manufacture. Excellent collector piece for display. Framed Prattware Pot Lid Hide& Seek 19th c This ceramic Prattware pot lid shows a little girl entering a door as other children hide behind the door and behind a seated woman. I've identified the scene as'Hide and Seek' A lid by the Pratt company made in the 1860's or 70's. The title'Hide and Seek' is printed on the bottom edge of the image, but the 3 3/4 inch opening of the frame obscures it. The wooden frame measures 5 3/4 by 5 3/8 inches by just under 7.8 inches thick. There are chips and a crack on the underside of the lid, but the only damage visible from the top are some brown lines in the design and some wear on the transfer in the upper right corner on the shelf with crocks. The treacle glazed body slip trailed with a central fish motif with ochre slip surrounded by star florets, the exterior with slip trailed scroll motifs within a pie crust wavy edged rim and two integrally moulded handles as shown with slip accents to the rim. This sale is for a Victorian 3 piece covered soap dish. I obtained this piece at an Estate Auction. They were owned by a lady in Apalachin. New York. She had a vast collection of both soap dishes and tooth brush boxes. The bottom of the soap dish is marked: Copeland Spode The soap dish consists of three pieces. The soap dish. A drain plate and the cover. When the cover is on, it measures 4 inches to the top of the finial. It is 3 1/2 inches by 5 inches. I found 2 small chips in the lid. See photo# 4. This is a great pair of vintage French Limoge Cameos mounted in hand mirror style frames.Most likely from the 1960-70's era. These decorative pieces have a small metal hoop on the back for hanging as well as the original label(see photo# 2)Each piece measures approximately 12" long by 5 1/4" wide.the oval glass section containing the cameo measures about 4 3/4" long by 3" wide. Frames appear to be made of a syrocco wood type material. Cracks or repairs but does have all over crazing and small loss of paint to the rim. Has red painted No. 4687 and blue C with impressed R to the base. No other legible makers marks. I always obtain proof of posting which covers items for loss or damage to the value of £20.00. A lovely pale green antique Ridgway gothic medieval knight jug
A very attractive example of a Victorian era Ridgway gothic jug featuring raised scenes of medieval knight jousting on horseback. There are various sizes and colours of these jugs. And this one is a medium size in a pale minty green. It has proved very hard to photogrpah the colour accurately, after numerous attempts, but I feel the pictures here are the closest. The jug is marked to the base"Published by w. Ridgway and Son and Co. Hanley" and a date"1838" This piece is very nicely modelled and of an unusual colour. It stands about 7.5 inches(19 cm) high to the top of the handle. Some of these jugs had a metal lid. But this one does not and has no holes for a lid fitting. It dates. I think, from the early to mid Victorian era, and the design was inspired by the Eglington Tournament, a Victorian re-creation of a medieval ... morejoust. Generally the condition is very good for a piece of this age and delicacy. It has a few small chips under the base rim and one hairline crack running from the middle of the top of the right hand side. You can just make it out internally. With a tiny glaze chip too(see third picture) but externally it is not really visable, even when looking closely. A lovely and unusual piece to add to a collection of victorian ceramics. And ideal for anyone who is interested in medieval or gothic related antiques. The jug will need packing well. So please note the postage cost. A NOTE REGARDING POSTAGE: I endeavour to send all items quickly. Safely and most cost effectively. I do not make profit from postage charges. This is a superb& rare example of an early antique. Victorian Staffordshire. `Prince Albert on Horse-Back` Figure. made in the Staffordshire Potteries, and dating from circa. 1840. The figure is superbly modelled, in the round, as the young Prince Albert on horse-back, his left hand holding the horse`s mane, his right hand holding the reins, wearing a plumed hat, tunic with epaulettes and trousers, decorated with both over-glaze& under-glaze `cobalt-blue` enamels, and applied `parsley` decoration, as shown in the photos. A quality figure. as several moulds would have been used to create the figure`s arms. the horse`s legs, tail& head. Aesthetic period Minton 12- tile panel, hand-painted in overglaze enamel, c1880
DESCRIPTION This is a superb chance to buy an unusual and very attractiv e tile panel which would look superb above a fireplace or in a similar location. This panel of twelve Minton China Works tiles(each tile 6" square) is hand painted in overglaze enamels on a light blue/grey ground. With a design of a swallow flying low over a wild rose, with other grasses or reeds along the bottom and a little honey-bee hovering close by. It is very much in the Aesthetic style and I date it to about 1880. This is also consistent with the tile markings. Which are the same for each tile and say MINTONS CHINA WORKS and have the globe mark(pictured) Like many of the panels which were produced in this way. It does not appear to be signed. However it is very well painted, as can be seen from the detail. The swallow is reminiscent of Florence Barlow, but ... moreas far as I know she did not do any work for Minton. An artist who did and who also painted bird designs similar to this is James Edwin Dean. CONDITION The back of the tiles are all pretty good- it looks like it was stuck to a wooden trellis at one point- most of that is gone. The face of the tiles is in very good condition- some light crazing is there as you would expect. And the paint is not worn or chipped. There are some nibbles at the edges of the tile but noting very noticeable. The crazing and the edge nibbles are best seen in the photo with the bee. The crack also is not easily noticed in the overall design- see photo 2. The is a lovel iridescence particulary in the swallow, and a good body to the painting, which is difficult to capture with photos. This exact design of TM was only in use between the dates above. The pattern is Chang and the finish is very shiny and semi transluscent. It is in very good condition for an item of this age. No chips. Cracks or crazes. The cup has been our family for many years. The two pictures above show the design on either side of the mug. The cups with scallop shaped rims and twig like handles with a bifurcated upper terminal and tiny moulded leaf thumbrest. Ornately and delicately painted with swags of tiny flowers in colours including pansies. Convolvulus and pinks surrounding turquoise elipses linked by maroon florets, the design complimented with gold motifs and a gilt'star' to the inside, the handles also picked out in gold. Antique 19thc Parian figure Naked Female Nubian. c1870 19thc Parian figure of a naked female Nubian standing 13 inches high on a base 7.5 inches long by 6 inches across. This unusual figure of a Nubian maiden is wearing nothing but a drape over her thigh and a necklace. She reclines on a rocky mound, by her side is a water fountain with an urn catching the water. The figure is well modelled. The Parian of a high quality being smooth, creamy and tactile. The condition is very good with just a couple of firing flaws. A chip to a toe and a chip underneath inside the base rim. There are 4 tiny pin holes on the back of the maiden. The figure is unmarked but the quality would certainly suggest a good manufacturer. THIS IS AN ANTIQUE MID 19thC FLOW BLUE JUG/ PITCHER WITH A MAROON SORT OF PINK/ RED GROUND IN THE CARLTON PATTERN BY J& G ALCOCK C1840 AND A GOOD SHAPE. THE JUG IS IN FAIR CONDITION. IT HAS HAD TWO SMALL CHIPS FILLED AND BETWEEN THEM IS A TIGHT SHORT HAIRLINE APPROX 3/4 OF AN INCH LONG(SEE IMAGES) THE JUG HAS NO OTHER CHIPS, CRACKS ETC.
