It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

This is a nice example of a Victorian/ Edwardian walnut and brass bound writing slope. Both hinges are unfortunately broken but replacements are inexpensive and readily available online. The green felt is not original but apart from that the rest is good commensurate with age. The box is approx 14" x 9" x 6" and needs just a little work to bring it to pristine condition. The machine will print the dollar value of the check so that it can not be forged or miss-interpreted. The check writing machine measures at 6.5 x 6.5 x 6 inches and was used to mark“NOT OVER X DOLLARS” and is a heavy duty piece of equipment with some chipped paint and rust but still works. ANTIQUE PRETTY INLAID WALNUT WRITING SLOPE C1890 large box drawers etc A pretty late Victorian writing slope in very good condition. Say 8 1/2 out of 10. Externally walnut with a nice grain to it, inlaid to corner details as seen with crossbanded tulipwood edging, inlaid and brass mounted lock escutcheon and lid cartouche, and inlaid in two ... morewide bands to top and front of the box in a compendium of exotic woods of the period. It has its key working in the lock. Internally again walnut, with a tooled leather scribe surface, various compartments pen tray etc to the forward area. Under the forward scribe surface flap. lift it up, and within the base section is the flap concealing three secret drawers, spring operated that is released by pulling up vertically the left hand side inkwell partition/ divider. I have marked the box down slightly as internally there are some small niks to the wood, commensurate for a box that has seen some use, and there has been some 1980's restoration(bought like this by me) mainly to the scribe surfaces. But overall this is a very attractive, decorative box, with all the inlay present and nothing missing, no major damage, is strong, so it could be used today. And a mirro red hinged lockable door below. W hich has an intricate fretwork border. Internally there are two short top drawers and f o ur large draw ers(some with partit ioned co m partments) Where the lower drawer contains a removable hinged writing slope with orig inal valour lining. See photos 6, 7& 8. The top moulding at the top reveals a s mall secret drawer. See photo 4. The drawers have litt le bone knobs which differ very slightly in size. Please take time to study the photographs to gain an appreciation of this unusual and very col lectable cabinet. The rosewood grain and colour looks rich in real life. Flash photo graphs do not do this cabinet ... morejustice. I believe this cabinet is all original including the brass hinges and lock which is in working order with replacement key provided. The con dition of th is very unusual and rare piece is quite exceptional considering the age with no major damage. Cracking, warping or restoration work, I bel ieve that it has not been touched(repaired/ items replaced) since the day it was made. There is a slight piece of missing ven eer to the top rear corn er(see photo 12) and a small crack in the base of the writing slope(see photo 8) Please see all the photographs for overall condition. Having brass banding and brass c art ou che and escutcheon; with original brass hinges and lock in working order with a key provided. The condition of the box is as sh own in the photographs; externally hav ing slight ven eer loss to the rear bottom left corner and bottom right corner(see phot os 6& 7) And the brass strips to the lid have became detached where one of the strips is a bit dented(see photos 1.2&3) and slight ha irline veneer cracking to the lid see photo 2. Internally the writing slopes are missing but the compartments and dip pen tray are present. It is worth noting that the original brass hinges and lock are worth about £25. Having a nice original patina and a rich coloured flame grain affect, with a nice shaped brass cartouche and escutcheon. I believe that this writing slope is all original(except for the leather skiver to the slopes) including the brass hinges and lock which is in working order with a key provided. The external condition of the box is fine with no major damage. Splits. Crack s or lose/missing veneer; the re has been a couple of very small filler repairs near the hinges and lock keeper(see photos 6, 7& 9) And there is a small knock indentation and hairlaine crack on the ... morelid see photo 8, but overal l this box is in very nice condition. Antique Chinese Bowl with Writing

It measure approximately 10 1/4 i nches long. 8 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches hig h. The are 4 cart o uche s with writing. The are also 4 portraits of figures and 8 more writings that are close to the rim. The writing and art work are clear and very detailed. The base is very unique and done in a modified wave design. The rim does show some wear on the gold. But no bad considering it's age. The condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. There are a few flaws that was caused during t he firing process. Antique Chinese Scholar's Writing Box-Fitted Interior-Abacus-Armrest
This is a wonderful old Chinese wooden scholar's box from the late 1880-1900's. The box has brass corners and brass hinges all in very good condition. There is a brass lock plate and also a small brass lock with key. The box has an old lacquer type finish and on the inside is rather rough from the lacquer aging. The inside has 4 little compartments with lids. A small abacus and an armrest, all removeable. There is also a removeable piece in the lid which I assume is for writing on. There is one compartment for brushes also. The box measures approx. 12" x 7 1/4" x 3 1/2" high. I have seen many nice old boxes but never one fitted out as complete as this one is. I am not sure of the wood so can not identify it. Absolutely fantastic old box.
