While I always liked ancient coins I never really got very serious about them. Nor did I accumulate much knowledge on them. However I did once have the ... moreopportunity to purchase a large group of ancient coins accumulated by a collector and part time dealer, who decided to just sell everything he had. So I have been listing them here on ebay, with any information he had noted on each one. But please judge for yourself, both by the description below and the photos, as to whether his attribution and any noted condition is indeed correct. I will combine shipping if you just let me know that you will be bidding on additional coin listings. PLEASE NOTE: I have had a couple of inquiries regarding more background on these Roman coins. And where they might have been originally found. The collector/dealer from whom I purchased the entire group was originally a dealer for them in England, before he relocated to the USA. In fact the vast majority of them are in folded holders that are priced in English Pounds Sterling, ranging from a low of 8 BPS(about $13 USD) to a high of 25 BPS(about $40) Some have had the BPS price crossed out and the USD price overwritten instead. As the internet indicates that the Roman conquest of England began in 43 A.D. under Claudius, and that this Roman occupation of England ended in 410 A.D. I believe that the vast majority of these coins were originally located in England, as the range of dates of the examples I purchased match up closely to this English occupation period by Romans. I expect that due to this history there exists many collectors of Roman coins within Enland. And why this person had originally dealt in them. The coins themselves range from examples that were obviously originally located in the ground(metal detecting finds) to those that appear to have seen very little use(storage hoard finds) The price in BPS noted on each example doesn't seem to always coincide with the coin's physical condition, so the original pricing is expectedly more due to the scarcity, desireability,

Silver Roman Denarius of Emperor Severus Alexander with Goddess(of Peace) Pax” 223 A.D. OBVERSE INSCRIPTION: IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG. OBVERSE DEPICTION: The head of Severus Alexander. Right, draped, laureate crown(laurel wreath) REVERSE INSCRIPTION: PAX AETERNA AVG. REVERSE DEPICTION: The“Goddess” Pax enrobed and diademed. Standing with sceptre in one hand and olive branch in the other. ATTRIBUTION: City of Rome Mint 223 A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 20 millimeters. Weight: 2.21 grams. NOTE: Coin is mounted free of charge into your choice of pendant settings(shown in sterling silver pendant) And includes a sterling silver chain in your choice of 16" 18" or 20" length, details below or click) We can reverse coin in mounting if you prefer opposite side showing front. DETAIL: This is a very handsome and somewhat uncommon ... moresilver denarius produced in the imperial city of Rome itself. Sometime during the year 223 A.D. The coin is in very good condition, only very light wear from circulation in ancient Rome, the legends and themes very clear and distinct. It was well struck both front and back, and an exceptionally well-centered strike at that on a very generous flan. Unlike most coins of the era, the strike caught the entirely of both the legends and the themes, and this is applicable to both the obverse as well as the reverse. It is without a doubt an exceptional and superior strike. The obverse of the coin depicts the head of Roman Emperor Severus Alexander, depicted draped and with laureate crown; and the legend“IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG” M AVR SEV ALEXAND” of course refers to the Emperor’s full name. Marcus Aurelis Severus Alexander. The“M” is obviously the initial for“Marcus” AVR” is short for“Aurelian” V” as there is no“U” in Roman Latin. SEV” is short for“Severus” and these abbreviations are followed by“ALEXAND” short for“Alexander” The“IMP” preface to his name is an abbreviation for“Imperator” Imperator was originally a title or acclamation awarded to victori

Silver Roman Denarius of Empress Faustina the Younger Wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius(of“Gladiator” Fame) with the Goddess(of Hope and Prosperity) Spes” Greek“Elpis” 145-161 A.D. OBVERSE INSCRIPTION: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. OBVERSE DEPICTION: The bust of Empress Faustina. Draped, hair pined into a bun. REVERSE INSCRIPTION: AVGVSTI PII FIL. REVERSE DEPICTION: The Goddess Spes standing. Enrobed, holding the hem of her robe with one hand, a flower in the other hand. ATTRIBUTION: City of Rome Mint between 145 and 161 A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 16*15 millimeters. Weight: 2.71 grams. We also have ... moreavailable handcrafted Greek black leather cords. We can reverse coin in mounting if you prefer opposite side showing front. DETAIL: This is a very handsome. Fairly rare silver denarius produced in the city of Rome itself sometime between 145 and 161 A.D. It is in very good condition, evidencing only moderate wear from circulation in ancient Rome, but the legends and themes remain clear and distinct. It was well struck both front and back the result a little oblong. As a result of the oblong strike, the coin is just a little undersized, too small to catch the entire strike. The entirety of the theme(the“pictures” is present, but a portion of the Latin legends are lost. But on the other hand, it is a fairly thick coin in very high relief, almost as if it were ancient Greek coin. On the whole it is without a doubt a superior strike, the slightly undersized nature being more than made up by the thickness of the coin and the height of the relief. The obverse of the coin depicts bust of the Empress Faustina“the Younger” Daughter of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius(the elderly emperor of Hollywood’s“Gladiator) mother of future Emperor Commo

Silver Roman Denarius(Successor to the“Denarius” of Emperor Elagabalus. Priest of the Ancient Semitic Sun God El-Gabal, with a Reverse Theme Depicting the Emperor Sacrificing a Bull; 221 A.D. REVERSE DEPICTION: Elagablus in toga and with horn growing out of forehead holding a patera sacrificing over an altar. DETAIL: This is a very handsome. And fairly rare silver antoninianus, struck at the city of Rome in 221 A.D. It is in very good condition relative to the state it“began life” in. What that means is that there is relatively little wear evident from circulation in ancient Rome. The coin is in much the same condition it was in when it was struck eighteen centuries ago. One can inspect the portrait of the emperor to appreciate just how fine the condition is, and how relatively little circulatory wear is evidence. It was well struck both front and back, the strike somewhat off center, the planchet(coin blank) slightly oblong. Nonetheless unlike most coins of the era, the strike caught most of both the legends and the themes, and this is applicable to both the obverse as well as the reverse. The coin was struck a bit off-center. The obverse a little bit low and too far right, the reverse just a little bit low and left of center. That coupled with the slightly irregular flan(coin edge) results in some of the legend on both obverse and

With only very mild wear from circulation in ancient Rome, all of the legends and themes very clear and distinct. It was exceptionally well struck both front and back, on a generous planchet(blank) The strike was well-centered, and so caught virtually all of both the legends and the themes, and this is applicable to both the obverse as well as the reverse. On the whole it is an exceptional specimen, the generous planchet and well-centered strike, combined with very low circulatory wear, likely placing the coin within the top ten percentile. The obverse of the coin depicts the bust of the Roman Emperor Marcus Trajan. Emperor Trajan is depicted draped with laureate crown and accompanied by the fairly complex legend“IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V PP” TRAIANO” of course refers to the Emperor’s name. There being no“J” in Roman Latin the letter“I” is used. Emperor Traja

DETAIL: This is a very handsome and fairly rare silver denarius produced in the city of Rome itself in 200 A.D. The coin is in good condition. The flan(edge) is a bit irregular(as was typical for coins produced during this era) and the strike was just a little bit left of dead center. Nonetheless all legends and themes are quite distinct, and unlike most coins of the era, the planchet(blank coin) was generously sized, and as a result the entirety of both the legends as well as the thematic elements are present and complete. It is without a doubt a very nice strike, much better than average. The obverse of the coin depicts the head of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. The obverse a little bit low and too far right, the reverse just a little bit low and lef
