One of the regions in Ancient Greece. Cartographically based on an early map by D'Anville, this map is centered on Thebes and details the ancient region's important towns and cities. The map also attempts to illustrate events associated with the Battle of Plataea. The battle of Plataea occurred in 479 BC and was the last battle in the second Persian invasion of Greece. It took place near the city of Plataea in Boeotia, and was fought by an alliance of the Greek city-states, including Sparta, Athens, Corinth and Megara, against the Persian Empire of Xerxes I. The map features Mount Cithaeron, where the tide of the battle turned. The battle concluded with a large portion of the Persian army trapped in their camp where they were slaughtered, essentially brining the invasion to a close. Prepared by M. Barbie de Bocage in 1787 to illustrate the Travels of Anacharsis. This set is the Corinth pattern in the clear glass with no etched pattern. The Corinth pattern mold is identical to those creamer and sugar sets that had an etched pattern. This mold was produced in three different sizes and this is the smallest of the three sizes. The clear. Non-etched, pattern is considered the rarest in that most sets were etched with a pattern. The creamer measures 3-1/2” from handle to spout and stands 3-1/4” tall. The sugar measures 4-1/4” from handle to handle and stands 2-1/2” tall. The condition is excellent. There are no cracks. Rare PETER BEHRENS cover 1902 Die Kunst fuer Alle Darmstadt LOVIS CORINTH
Rare PETER BEHRENS designed cover on Die Kunst für Alle Special Issue featuring the work of[LOUIS] LOVIS CORINTH 15 November 1902. XVIII Jahrgang, Heft 4 Superb cover designed by Peter Behrens for the German magazine Die Kunst für Alle. Published in 1902 by F. Bruckmann of München/ Munich, who also published sister magazines including Dekorative Kunst. It is rare to find issues with the original cover designs. Since the covers(and often advertisements) were typically removed and the issues bound into yearbooks. Something I learned when buying a yearbook of Die Woche: in part for the Otto Eckmann covers, but since I already have a bunch- plus the Eckmann design was featured on the leather cover- I was looking for the Henry van de Velde Tropon ads that appeared in some issues. Sadly, I learned that the Tropon ads were usually ... moreinside front cover, and thus not in the bound yearbook versions. Waah. No worries: I eventually found the issues with 3 different vd Velde Tropon ads. Fantastic geometric Jugendstil design by Behrens. Using the font Behrens designed, and including his PB monogram at the cover's bottom. Truly a magnificent piece from this iconic designer. Approx. 32 pages. Including 24 pages primarily about Lovis Corinth, along with advertisements and exhibition type listings. Weight: 140 grams. Size approximately 8.5 x 12 inches(21.5 x 30.5 cm) Condition: Good condition for a magazine its age. All pages are present. And the binding is secure, though there are some rips along the spine and outer edges of the cover. Plus a bit of soiling/wear. The Behrens cover alone makes it worthy of framing. From our personal candlestick collection we are offering this vintage crystal Cambridge Corinth pattern two light candlestick. Catalog number 3900-72. This piece is pictured on page 38 of the Cambridge Collectors' 1978 reprint of Cambridge Glass Co catalogs from 1949 thru 1953. It is also shown on pages 37& 39 of the Archers' The Collector's Encyclopedia of Glass Candlesticks" 1983 edition. Height is 6" with the widest part of the base at 8 1/4" Condition is excellent; there are no signs of use. We do want to mention that there are two short air inclusions in the base which we could not photograph. There are no cracks. Chips, hairlines, repairs or other defects. It appears that Mr. Eggleston was born in 1876 and died in 1941 having outlived his wife. Mr. Eggleston seems to have continued his printing business right up to his last years. Offered for your bidding pleasure is a Corinth straight sided vase in Westmoreland's teal Carnival Glass. This charming piece measures 8 1/8" in height. Has a 4" top flare and stands on a circular 3" base. T he iridescence is shiny and heavy for a Westmoreland piece. With various nice hues of pink, teal, violet, green and blue with golden highlights. It's a very pretty example of these vases. There are no chips. Cracks or repairs. There is a small internal burst in the rear that has been there since the day it was made.
