SHIMMERING AMETHYST CORINTH WESTMORELAND JACK IN THE PULPIT CARNIVAL GLASS VASE Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click to Enlarge Click ... moreto Enlarge Description: Here is a pretty carnival glass jack in the pulpit vase. It is the amethyst color and Corinth pattern that was made by the Westmoreland Company. It is interesting in that the"pulpet" top looks very carnival glass and the base looks more just purple. There is a lot of gold and shimmering color in the pulpet- really a beautiful design. Judging from other listings for this pattern. I can see that it must have been made in different sizes. This one measures approximately: 9-3/8" tall x 5-1/4" wide at the top and 3-1/8" at the base. I don't see any chips. Nicks etc- some manufacturing straw marks or bubbles. Please ask any questions and thanks for looking! Please know that I try to describe all jewelry as accurately as possible and take as many pictures as necessary. I charge a flat shipping fee of $4.75, this includes insurance within the US, outside the US is at buyer's risk. ... moreSo arrangements and additional charges for registered international airmail are available and recommended, simply contact me at the end of the auction of you wish to go with that method. Multiple won auctions can be combined for one shipping charge, simply contact me before paying for an adjusted total. I typically ship within 1-2 days of payment, however I do maintain a full coin show schedule, so shipping days tend to be limited to the first part of the week(I set my items to list on weekends and mondays for this reason) so payment before wednesday is recommended if you need the coin fast. Dug Confederate Republic Of Texas Infantry Button 1837 Scovill B/M Corinth Relic
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This auction is for a VERY Rare Republic of Texas Infantry button. This 19.5mm button feature the Texas Star with the Infantry I in the middle and the Republic of Texas around the star. It has the Scovills Waterbury back mark and is listed in Albert's book as TX-10A and is part of the order that the Republic of Texas placed in 1837 with Scovill after it became a Republic in 1836. It has a push to the face but has a stand up shank and a VERY nice readable Scovills Water bury back mark. I bought the button back in the early 90's from an old digger in Corinth Mississippi who dug it from a Confederate camp along the Mobile& Ohio railroad north of town. From my research these camps were occupied by the 1st Texas Legion and the 3rd Texas Dismounted Cavalry. Even with the push to ... morethe face this is still a very rare and sought after button. Sepia. Agfa paper, 4" x 5" This is an old RPPC showing 16 sailors from The U.S. Navy posing with 8 civilians(journalists? at least one has a camera) standing in front the The Temple Of Apollo in Ancient Corinth in Greece. This photo is most likely taken during World War II. When the US Navy would have been stationed in the area. The civilian clothes certainly look mid-1940's, and according to the Agfa photopaper guide at the LWCollectibles blog, the Agfa logo on the back of this postcard is a wartime logo. There is no text anywhere identifying anyone in the photograph. The back is divided. Halleck—the Army of the Tennessee, the Army of the Ohio, and the Army of the Mississippi—advanced on the vital rail center of Corinth, Mississippi. Made cautious by the staggering losses at Shiloh, Halleck embarked on a tedious campaign of offensive entrenchment, fortifying after each advance. By May 25, 1862, after moving five miles in three weeks, Halleck was in position to lay siege to the town. Confederate commander General P.G.T. Beauregard saved his army by a hoax. Some of the men were given three days' rations and ordered to prepare for an attack. As expected. One or two went over to the Union with that news. The preliminary bombardment began, and Union forces maneuvered for position. During the night of May 29, the Confederate army moved out. They used the Mobile and Ohio Railroad to carry the sick and wounded, the heavy artillery, and tons of supplies. When a train arrived, the troops cheered as though reinforcements were arriving. They set up dummy Quaker Guns along the defensive earthworks. Camp fires were kept burning, and buglers and drummers played. CORINTH AE12___Circa 350 BC____Flying Pegasos & Trident
SJ31 FRASCATIUS ANCIENTS A BEAUTIFUL BRONZE COIN OF CORINTH CORINTHIA FROM BEFORE 350 BC. FROM THE CLYDE PHARR COLLECTION(1885- 1972) THE SIZE IS 11.8 MM AND 1.79 GRAMS. Sear 2645 OBVERSE– Pegasos flying right REVERSE– Ornamental trident head Pegasos is on the coins of Corinth based on the Corinthian legend: The great legend of Corinth was that of Bellerophon. The grandson of Sisyphos, the hero who killed the Chimaera. The legend tell us that Bellerophon was sleeping in the temple of Athena and had a dream in which the goddess gave him a bridle and a bit, to catch the immortal steed Pegasos. He did that at the moment the steed was drinking water from the Peirene spring, near Acrocorinth. Bellerophon's first name was Hipponous and it was after he killed a monster or as the Corinthians were saying a man. Named Belleros and fled to Tirynths(Homer ... moresays at Corinth) that he took the name. Anteia(Sthenoboea) the wife of Proetos fell in love with him, but when he rejected her, she accused him to her husband. Proetos who was afraid to kill a guest. Sent him to his father in law Iobates at Lyceia, with a tablet, in which it was written to kill the bearer. Iobates, who failed to read the message immediately and received him as a guest, he was also unable to harm him and for this, he sent him to kill the fire breathing monster Chimaera, sure that he would not survive but Bellerophon with the help of Pegasos succeeded. Ancient Corinth. The original Corinth, founded in the 10th Century BCE, at one time had been the richest port and the largest city in ancient Greece. Strategically located guarding the narrow isthmus that connects the Peloponnesus(as southern Greece is called) to the mainland, it was a powerful commercial center near two seaports only 4 miles apart. Lechaeum, the western harbor in the Corinthian Gulf was the trading port to Italy and Sicily, and Cenchreae, the eastern harbor in the Saronic Gulf, was the port for the eastern Mediterranean countries. Periander(625-585 BC) had constructed a five foot wi

13 May 1862 Corinth, Mississippi Battle Letter
Camp near Corinth. Miss. May the 13th. 1862 Dear Friends, It has been along time since I wrote to you for the reason that the officers said that letters would not leave here till the next battle was fought. They told us this morning that we could send letters so I wrote one to our folks forenoon. I am well and hope you all the same. We have moved within about for miles of Corinth. It was thought that Corinth was evacuated but it is quite a bad mistake I think for the 9th General Pope in command. Up the left flank was attacked and drove back. We meant to assist them but it was all over before we got there. About 30 wounded and 80 killed on our side. The whole army formed in line of battle. Every morning we harness the horses and let them be harnessed till about noon. We hear cannonading today but it is some distance from here. It must be on ... morethe right. There is a swamp between us and the Rebels. Our troops are cutting roads through it and bridging them with logs. The Rebels can be seen from where picket guards stand. They say the swamp is three quarters to a mile ride. Our siege guns are in front with the advance. The weather is fine. It is pretty warm. The roads is getting good. They have been making preparations for the wounded five hours long or more. They nail blankets on two to carry the wounded out. I got the letter that your mother and you wrote me. I also got the paper you sent me. I am very thankful for the papers you sent me also for the post stamps Uncle William sent me. Marian sent me some stamps in the last letter that I got from home. They sell for about 25 cents a piece at the landing. Newspapers fifteen cents a piece. I sent 40 Dollars home May the first by a Doctor from Cleveland. I wrote a letter and put the money in it to father, Ashland, Ohio. The captain told all the boys that if they wanted to send money that he knew the Doctor to be an honest man and would be a good chance he would take the money to Cleveland then express it. John Starret got a furlough and went home. He was very sick for tw
