The"bezel" or center part of this ring depicts a stylized starburst design(though it could be interpreted as a flower blossom as well) Starburst themes of one variety or another were a very popular geometric design during the first few centuries A.D. and the starburst design engraved into the surface of this bezel is done very nicely, and is of very uncommon character. It almost seems Celtic in character, somewhat abstract and stylized. To either side of the bezel are raised shoulders. Created by building up the band on either side of the bezel. It gives the ring a sculpted look, and is a very handsome touch. The heavy construction is of the more archaic style, characteristically made in two pieces; an incomplete ring(a“shank” with a separately crafted bezel which was brazed to the shank in order to assemble the ring. This incredible ring features a thick. 21mm X 10mm eye shaped bezel that is amazingly thick. The bezel is well defined and has a nice lip decoration running along the edges and there is a wonderful double lightning bolt going across the bezel face. He has been depicted as a wise. Patriarchal being holding a lightening bolt and a solar wheel. The corners of the eye project over the shoulders of the ring which slope away from the bezel giving the ring that triangular cross-section look. Instead of the plain triangular band this example has a flattened plain where the peak would have been so the band now looks like it is hexagonal in cross section. Perfectly Preserved! This ring was found at a site in Ancient Thrace where the Celtic tribes held sway until they were subdued by the Romans. This ring dates from between 300BC and 100AD. This fine ring features a 19mm X 10mm eye-shaped bezel. The bezel has the 2 opposing swirls engraved upon it as well as some more accent lines and a nice outlining design. These are all well done and I noticed something about this design. If you look at ... moreit one way. You see the two classic swirls but if you look at it another way, the engraved lines are really the frame for a nice, S" curved swirl that doubles back on itself over the surface of the ring. These swirl designs were quite popular among the Ancient Celts and figured heavily in a lot of their decorative work. If you look closely. Golden alloy which is the finest that you are likely to see in a ring of this type. The design on the raised. 19mm X 17mm button shaped bezel that is over 5mm thick, is a nicely done"Diamond-Star Cross" design. which is HIGHLY ... moredetailed. LOOK.at the many fine lines which highlight this design. It is hard to tell from my pictures. But when this ring is worn out in the sunlight, the light plays across every single line which really makes it shimmer. There is almost no fading to the decorations even though this ring was probably worn by the same man for many years and would have been a much valued possession. We can tell this by the wear patterns on the band. To one side where there was probably a casting flaw the ring was worn thinner than the other side but remains fully intact. This ring is an excellent example of the period's craft. The ring is VERY MASCULINE and will be a highly noticeable wardrobe addition.
