A beautiful pair of antique or vintage bookends featuring Greek(or Roman) columns. They measure 7 1/4 inches wide. 4 1/3 inches tall and the base is 1 1/2 inches wide. I am sorry I don't know if they are cast iron or cast bronze or the manufacturers name. Nor the age. They have the original patina and there is a copper or gold color still showing on the edges. The are straight and not bent nor cracked. They are quite heavy weighing 5 pounds and 2 ounces but I can still fit them into a US Post office flat rate box. SMALL SIZE. Up for bid is a vintage garden statue figure in a dark bronze color. While this looks like bronze. It is actually a pot metal which would have been correct for the 1920's market. The piece is done in the Greek or Roman style which also would be correct for that period. The figure has been mounted on a wood base for use indoors as a figural ornament. The statue is 18 inches tall and the base is 7 inches in diameter. This piece needs a good cleaning but is in super condition. Antique 1903 Ansonia Mantle Clock Bronze Cherub Statuary Gilded Finish Roman #'s
This beautiful clock is made by Ansonia. It was made about 1903. It has two beautiful bronze Cherubs on the top of it the detailing in the casting and gilding is just fantastic. The numbers are Roman enameled numerals, there is some wear where the key went in and out of the two holes. It runs fine and the chime has a very nice tone to it. Overall dimensions are close not exactly, the height is 29" measuring across the base is 12" the dial is 5.75" in diameter, and the base is 12.5" in height. What more can I say about it? They say a picture is worth a thousand words, I just had it cleaned and adjusted by my clock shop the 1st week of July. I will only ship this to the lower 48 states. There is an on off button on the backside as well as some wire sticking out that used to be the cord to plug it in. It will need to be rewired to function as a lamp. His motif is central to the piece and flowers and leaves with beautiful scroll designs grace the cast bronze visage. There are places where the bronze has worn. These were made in the late 1800's and has British registry and the diamond on the reverse side are their foundry marks. I cannot really read the registry mark but it seems both almost same. On a similar matching style door knocker. The foundry mark pointed to the work of James Collins of Birmingham but it seems these are a little bit different although I was happy to see someone else having something like what I have after 3 years trying to find. The condition of these bronze plates are very good for this 100+ year find, with natural aging and wear. Also looks like a cat face but the feet are webbed? The Roman Emperor Augustus Family mausoleum was a towering cylindrical building in Rome at one time but although all of the marble and bronze grandeur of the structure has been robbed over the ages. It is still quite remarkable to see just how much still exist. I have been there in person myself and with a little imagination and knowledge of ancient Roman architecture, you can visualize the once breath taking building. On either side of this very impressive bronze urn are two beautifully sculpted Capricorn heads or goats heads which hold Roman triumphal vistory garlands in their mouths which was a common decoration in ancient Romes marble architecture. The Roman Emperor Augustus ... morebirth sign was the Capricorn or the half goat and half fish mythological animal. Augustus used the Capricorn on more of his own coinage then any other type of animal, mythological or not. Many of the legion's instituted under Augustus used the Capricorn as they considered themselves as born(or formed) under Augustus. This symbol should not be confused with the bull which was also used by legions formed under Augustus but actually tied into Caesar's family of which Augustus was a member. Also, the hour hand is missing and when we removed the small clock from the bronze case we found that there is composite material holding the works to the face. Antique French Bronze Decor Greek Roman Hunt Feast Motif From Antique Clock
U p for sale is this pair of fantastic antique French bronze decor. Originally used to embellish a clock, I am sure there are many ways these can be repurposed today or just displayed as they are. They are about 5 1/8" tall, about 6 1/2" across the back including the platforms, but not the little pieces sticking up. Looks to me to be either a Greek or Roman hunt and feast type motif. You will see some wear and small imperfections in the casting, but overall very good condition and patina. I don't think you will be able to get these to seam perfectly together so keep that in mind if you are thinking about repurposing them as one piece, they were designed to attach to either end of a clock, not join together, so you would have live with an imperfect seam or union.
