He lived and worked in New York City for nearly forty years where he enjoyed a career in book publishing, teaching and art. He states that he was drawn or sketched ever since he can remember. As a youngster his grandmother. Isabella Keyser, who was a fairly well-known painter in her day, encouraged him to draw. That was the beginning of art as being a part of his life, which is true to this day. His first formal training in drawing and composition was at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School which he attended thanks to the G.I. Bill after serving the Marines in World War II. Schooling was interrupted for a couple of years as he was recalled to serve in the Korean conflict. When he returned from duty he attended the Art Students League of New York to again study drawing. Composition, layout and design. While there he became involved and was made a member of the society and was elected to its Board of Directors. For almost forty years he served in all capacities, including the office of President. He was recently invited back to serve on the Board in 2004-2005. But is being sold without an actual glass chimney(couldn't find one with appropriate diameter that looked right) It does, however, come with a frosted chimney all-in-one bulb that may do the trick till you find appropriate chimney. Base is nicely weathered patina weighted brassy metal with good working faux wick adjustment on/off switch without breaks. Missing pieces or repairs. Lamp base stands approx. 7.5" tall. Depicting a portrait of a beautiful young woman holding a guitar. The sitter is wearing a white dress with a cross to the neckline and a gold necklace. The quality is truly excellent and although unsigned, we feel the portrait would be worth further research as the artist could be very prolific. An attractive piece, presented in a wooden frame with gilt slip, which compliments the piece well. The painting has had three small patch repairs. Shown at verso- these can be seen to the front image, but do not detract from the quality. It originally had a central oil lamp with a ring of 9 candles around the perimeter. The oil lamp is now converted to hold an electric bulb. The bronzework on this chandelier is superb. With massive construction and fine Louis XVI styling and details. It is nicely patinated to a medium bronze color and we did not attempt any restoration or polishing. This is a counterweighted chandelier that can be easily adjusted up and down. However, the adjustment chains are short and not much adjustment is presently available(replacing the chains would solve this if additional height adjustment is desired) The wiring and socket are old and in poor condition and must be replaced before use. RARE ANTIQUE MINIATURE OIL LAMP BLUE MILK GLASS WITH FIRED ON ANGELS & DECOR 328
Up for bid is a very rare Blue Milk Glass miniature oil lamp with fired on Angels and Decorations. This oil lamp measures almost 9" tall from the bottom to the top of the shade. The lamp itself measures 6" to the base for the shade. It measures 3" in diameter at the widest point. This is a very old lamp the shade has some imperfections to it in not sure if that how it was made or somewhere after if got a nick on it. I took pictures showing the condition of the shade so please refer to the pictures for the conditioning. It dont not some with the the chimney and where the chimney goes some metal prongs have cracked off. Im sure these two things can be easily fixed. Just acquired out of a Midwest estate. We are able to offer this original 1890's era ~ FROSTED SATIN GLASS GONE WITH THE WIND OIL LAMP ~. The matching shade and base are original to each other. This is a fairly large lamp measuring 23 inches tall. The over all condition is quite nice and it has been electrified at some point in its life. It looks like the font was drilled to run the wire through, and I also see a crack in the brass font along the side. There is no damage to base or shade with the exception of a some expected small little chips or roughness around the bottom fitter end of the globe, that is not seen when placed in the frame. I believe that this lamp was possibly made by Pittsburgh, although I am fairly certain that the collectors will recognize it. Antique 19C c1880 EAPG Coolidge Drape Oil~Kerosene Sewing Lamp ~NR Up for auction a wonderful EAPG oil lamp. The design or pattern in this lamp is the Coolidge Drape because if flows or falls like a drape and President Coolidge was seen in a picture with this style of lamp. The Eagle burner is in place but still needs to be cleaned; not rusted. Good shape and the wick adjustment does work. The chimney is missing but so easy to replace. The lamp is 11 inches tall without the chimney and about 7.5 inches wide. This would be the larger sewing lamp. The lamp is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or stains. This lamp would be lovely with a red or blue fuel. These lamps are not only beautiful pieces of our history but they become vital when we lose electricity. Sorry. No International Shipping. Please note that our photos are below the item description. This antique student lamp is in need of restoration. It has been electrified at some time in the past. Luckily the wire came out of the burner section and no other holes or alterations were made in the lamp. In the 5th row of photos you can see the slight separation in the ribbing at the bottom where the wire came out. Other minor problems are there is some solder at the top of the oil tank with some very minor metal fatigue at the top. There is a dent on the inside of the oil tank also shown in the 5th row of photos. Obviously the burner has also been altered. There are no other dents. Splits or damages on the lamp. The lamp is made of solid brass(except for the weight in the base) and would polish up beautifully if that was your desire. Although ... morewe cannot find any maker's mark we believe the lamp to be made by the Miller Lamp Company. It stands 21 1/2" tall, is 14 1/2" wide and weighs 8 1/2 pounds. This is a nice antique brass oil lamp font with an Apollo brand duplex burner. It measures 3 7/8" in diameter at the bottom x 7" high. The wheel adjusters for the wick work fine and there are no holes or dents to the font. Antique E. Miller Banquet Oil Lamp Dragon Shade A very nice antique banquet oil lamp made by E. Miller Co. Metal base is made of spelter. With I believe the original gilt finish which shows some wear in places, but is otherwise is great shape with no breaks or repairs. Fantastic filigree font holder with dragons and lion head handles and all around finely detailed base. The font has a patch on the bottom from an old electrification but it holds oil fine, it will actually need to be emptied of oil before shipment. The burner is a nice Miller duplex in working condition, just needs new wicks. Shade is a 10 inch cased pink glass shade with gold dragons and fleur-de-lis. Has brass top ring and 4 inch fitter with only issues being a little gold lose to dragons, mostly on one side due to many years of dusting and handling. This is a very nice antique oil lamp. It has a burner which is marked RAYO Queen Anne No. 2 The lamp is 11.5" to the top of the burner. The base is about 5" in diameter. The globe is not original to the lamp. There are no chips. Cracks, dings, or repairs. The pedestal is narrow where it is attached to the oil font. Most lamps I've seen look very chunky, and this looks more elegant to me. It narrows to about a 5" circumference at the top of the pedestal. It needs a wick. Antique Large Squat Oil Lamp EAPG Peanut Pattern
A great early American pattern glass oil lamp in the peanut pattern made by U.S. Glass Co. It is 9" tall and 7 3/8" in diameter at the bottom and is a very heavy lamp. Comes with a burner but probably not the original. Has many bubbles and straw marks one i have pictured at the very bottom may be a tiny hair line. Not sure. Other than that really nice condition. Antique Victorian Duplex Brass Double Student Oil Lamp Electric Original Globes
Hi. You are bidding on the most beautiful lamp. It is a Duplex student oil lamp that was converted to electric. You can see by the cord and plug that it is one of the oldest electric lamps you will ever see. It has been tested and did work when I bought it but the cord is super old. I would get a second opinion before you use the cord. The globes are LOVELY and even more beautiful in person. They are in good condition with no nicks or cracks. The globes measure approximately ten inches across at the bottom and 4.5 inches or so on the top. The entire lamp is 27 inches when measured from base to top of chimneys. I believe the chimneys are also original in that they look like old glass and they are the exact measurements of the original chimneys. One of the chimneys has some roughness around the base where it goes into the metal but it is not ... morechipped. If you collect these antique lamps. I think you are going to love this one. There are problems, but minimal. I see that there is one lamp socket that is sort of tipped to one side. There is some difficulty getting the round base for the chimney into the larger frame for the glass globe. But I think that all of these issues are probably just a part of owning a lamp like this. This is an exceptional antique hanging oil or kerosene parlor lamp. It has the Northwind blowing on a gentleman holding an umbrella that has become inverted. The font is made of porcelain with a flower motif or design. It has been electrified as you can see in the pictures. It would take a shade that is aprox. 13 1/2" in diameter. We did not plug it in so it may need to be rewired or returned to it's original oil fueled state. We saw no breaks. Repairs or damage.
