First in England and then in the United States. It idealized the craftsman and embraced simple, strong designs executed by hand. The art, metalwork, pottery, textiles, and furniture of the Arts& Crafts Movement are enormously popular in todays antique market, and the designs are inspiring a whole new wave of creativity. This new book explores the Movement on both sides of the Atlantic. It focuses on furniture, which Gustav Stickley called the clearest concrete expression of the Craftsman idea, and also includes large representations of all the decorative arts. It covers a broad range of items, from the rarest to the common. All of the pieces have been on the market and are accessible to collectors at various levels. The pieces are illustrated in over 500 full-color photographs. Each is carefully described and an estimate of its current value is given. Many English and

Offered for your consideration is a Fabulous Hand Hewn Studio Craft Stool by David N. Ebner. Furniture designer. This stool is a Classic RENWICK STOOL, ... moreso named because it was originally made for an exhibition at the Renwick Gallery. Ebner established his own studio in 1973 and is considered an integral part of the"Studio Craft" furniture movement. His furniture has been shown at numerous Exhibitions throughout the USA. His accomplishments in this field can be read in his Biography, it is worth reading before bidding. This early Renwick Stool may have been commissioned by the previous owner and is signed D.N.E. 77 at the inside bottom of one side, each of the 7's has a slash through it in British style. This is an Estate find of a well know artist that had many fine things in her home. I am not sure of the type of wood, but it looks like Teak or Cherry, it has an Asian and American Moderne style. This Renwick Stool is approx. 15.5" tall and the slightly concave top is approx. 15.5" X 13" The dovetails are hand cut and the craftsmanship is spectacular. This has a very minor chip( about 1/16" X 3/16" to the bottom of one leg plank and a slight flaw at the side of one dovetail. Neither one of these imperfections are glaringly visible. This Renwick Stool is in absolutely beautiful condition for its 37 years of use and display, a true future antique. Because this has been pre-owned and used in a home, it is being offered at a price point far below any other on the open market at this time. Please ask any questions before bidding and I will answer and quickly and thoroughly as possible. The pictures are an important part of this description, and more will be provided individually if needed. PayPal Only. Payment is expected within 3 days of the end of Auction. The Romance of King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table by Sir Thomas Malory. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: ... more501 pages. Publisher: Weathervane Books; 1977) ISBN: 0517231360. This vigorous. Eloquent epic tale of valor is noted for having been written in the best English prose of the Fifteenth Century. The accompanying illustrations are, of course, a perfect example of the best illustrations of any century. The characters will be familiar: Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan and Isolde, for this is the definitive account of the Arthurian legends, and Pollard's is the definitive abridgement. His preface says: The story of King Arthur and his knights is one of the greatest that men have ever made. Greater by far than that of Charlemagne, which had come into fashion a little earlier, greater perhaps even than the tale of Troy, already some 2,000 years old, which for some centuries it eclipsed. It is through the fifteenth century prose of Sir Thomas Mallory, in which homeliness and nobility go hand in hand, that it holds its place in our hearts. But the story itself was the outcome of the second half of the twelfth century and the beginning of the thirteenth, the days of England’s Henry II and his three turbulent sons Geoffrey, Richard Coeur de Lion, and John. In the days when the Arthurian romances were coming into existence. Violence, cruelty, and luxury were rampant. But the greatness of these evils called forth some great virtues to counter them. This story bears traces of these and is penetrated to its very core by the special virtues of days in which men were content to live dangerously, carrying their lives in their in their hands and willing to lay them down lightly rather than break the rules of the game or be faithless to work or friend. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 288 pages. Publisher: Facts On File. Inc; 1996) ISBN: 0816030057. List Price $44.00] Long overshadowed by Greek mythology. Or treated peripherally in general texts on the ancient Roman world, Roman religion is finally accorded its due in this unique reference work. While perhaps most familiar in the context of Greek-influenced gods(Jupiter is to Rome what Zeus was to Greece" Roman religious life in fact encompassed a tremendous variety of deities, rites, and belief systems. From the Celtic God Abandinus to the pagan historian Zosimus, Dictionary of Roman Religion" contains more than 1,400 entries. Among the myriad of topics covered are: deities and spirits; festivals; sacrifices; temples, altars, and cult objects; burial rites; writers on religion; and historical religious events. Different religions within the Roman world. Such as Mithraism, Druidism, Judaism, and Christianity, are also discussed. Entries range from brief definitions to concise essays reflecting particularly important aspects of religious practice, and most include suggestions for further reading in addition to a complete bibliography. A glossary, 63 photographs and 65 line drawings, and extensive cross-references round out this singular perspective on religious life in the Roman world. Written by two experts in the field. The Herman Miller Furniture Company was devoted to manufacturing period reproduction furniture until pioneer industrial designer Gilbert Rohde walked into their Grand Rapids showroom in 1930. A devout modernist. Rohde convinced D.J. De Pree to focus on modern furniture throughout the 1930s, and to produce exclusively modern furniture by the time Rohde died in 1944. This exact reprint of the 1939 product catalog from the Herman Miller Archives is an historic document showing hundreds of Art Deco and other classic modern furniture designs. All by Rohde. His use of exotic veneers, tubular steel, bentwood, and plastics was innovative and important in the evolution of modernism. With an added price guide, this catalog will be an invaluable tool for the researcher, collector, dealer, and museum curator.
