Offered for your consideration is a Fabulous Hand Hewn Studio Craft Stool by David N. Ebner. Furniture designer. This stool is a Classic RENWICK STOOL, ... moreso named because it was originally made for an exhibition at the Renwick Gallery. Ebner established his own studio in 1973 and is considered an integral part of the"Studio Craft" furniture movement. His furniture has been shown at numerous Exhibitions throughout the USA. His accomplishments in this field can be read in his Biography, it is worth reading before bidding. This early Renwick Stool may have been commissioned by the previous owner and is signed D.N.E. 77 at the inside bottom of one side, each of the 7's has a slash through it in British style. This is an Estate find of a well know artist that had many fine things in her home. I am not sure of the type of wood, but it looks like Teak or Cherry, it has an Asian and American Moderne style. This Renwick Stool is approx. 15.5" tall and the slightly concave top is approx. 15.5" X 13" The dovetails are hand cut and the craftsmanship is spectacular. This has a very minor chip( about 1/16" X 3/16" to the bottom of one leg plank and a slight flaw at the side of one dovetail. Neither one of these imperfections are glaringly visible. This Renwick Stool is in absolutely beautiful condition for its 37 years of use and display, a true future antique. Because this has been pre-owned and used in a home, it is being offered at a price point far below any other on the open market at this time. Please ask any questions before bidding and I will answer and quickly and thoroughly as possible. The pictures are an important part of this description, and more will be provided individually if needed. PayPal Only. Payment is expected within 3 days of the end of Auction. Or immediate payment on Buy it Now. Please make sure your shipping address is current. Correct and complete.

The world has noted the distinctive chairs made by Shaker communities throughout the eastern United States. A writer for House Beautiful suggested at the beginning of the twentieth century that"If you own a Shaker chair, preserve it with great care, for it will soon be considered an antique, and a rare one at that. In this definitive book, that statement is verified as the authors examine in depth the styles and production techniques of chairs made at ten Shaker communities during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Historical and contemporary photographs, extensive journal and account book references, diaries, postcards, catalog advertisements, and detailed line drawings are all used to document the chairs' history. Readers will find valuable information on identification of chair types and origins as well as an analysis of design and construction. An essential resource for collectors, historians, designers, and devotees of antique furniture. SO in SK

Antique Roycroft Arts & Crafts Furniture in 1906
Catalog of Roycroft Furniture and other things” A facsimile reprint of the 1906 Roycroft Furniture catalog. Issued by Turn of the Century Editions in 1981. DISCUSSION: Roycroft furniture was not manufactured in large quantities. Nevertheless. It contributed significantly towards the growth of Arts and Crafts design in America. Furniture and other artifacts made by the Roycrofters at their community in East Aurora, New York, are easily identified by the incised orb and cross and/or“Roycroft” name. The 1906 catalog reprinted here depicts a substantial portion of the furniture designs produced under the forceful direction of Elbert Hubbard. ENGLISH VICTORIAN FURNITURE -MANY REVIVAL STYLES -Classic by Symonds & Whineray
Victorian Furniture” By R.W. Symonds& B.B. Whineray. Published in London by Country Life Ltd. in 1965. 2nd printing. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: It is not always appreciated that there were as many changes and trends in furniture design in the reign of Queen Victoria as there had been in those of the previous five sovereigns. Therefore. In the space of some 50,000 words, this book can attempt only a general survey of Victorian furniture and its use and place in the Victorian home. Discussion of any one aspect in great detail has not been possible; the Exhibitions, wood-working machinery, papier-mache and the Arts and Crafts Movement, to name but a few, are all subjects, closely connected with furniture, which have been or could have been expanded into works of their own. It is hoped, however, that enough has been ... moresaid on each subject to give a balanced picture of furniture throughout the Victorian era" Actually. B.B. Whineray protests too much. This is a well illustrated study of English Victorian era furniture which does a very good job exploring the development and influences of the styles, the methods and materials used, and the social context of the movement. Symonds, one of the leading authorities on English furniture, died during preparation of the book, and it was completed by Whineray, his assistant. Item Description This Ebay listing is for the sale of a CD ROM publication of a Victorian era trade catalogue of illustrated cabinet and upholstered furniture designs. CD ROM Title: Victorian Furniture Designs. Catalogs have always performed several roles in the trades and societies they have served and purveyed goods into. First of all. Second, they raise our expectations when we see new goods, ideas, designs, tools, and the methods or lifestyles that they imply or denote. Third, the stimulate us to look to create new methods, ideas, protocols, lifestyles, tools, and technologies or designs of our own. Fourth, they are both time capsules and travel ... moreguides to the past and the present in their respective régimes or areas of focus. They take us to exotic places and people and ideas we would never have encountered in our own lives or professional practices or work or schools and they show us the progression of others ideas from the old tools or products offered, to the newest and most progressive ones. Catalogs are the things dreams are made of, sometimes in plebian and profane ways as we covet what we see in them, and sometimes in the most elevated and profound and spiritually and intellectually inspiring ways as we see possibilities to evolve the future in most wondrous ways. American Philadelphia Empire Antique Furniture & Cabinetmakers Pennsylvania
Philadelphia Empire Furniture" By John William Boor. With Allison, Jonathan, Christopher, Peter Boor. Published by the University Press of New England in 2006. DISCUSSION: This volume looks closely for the first time at Philadelphia Empire furniture and the development of decorative arts in Philadelphia between 1800 and 1840. The authors explore Neo-Classicism. Contemporary history of Philadelphia, the emergence of Greek-Revival architecture, and the cabinetmakers of Philadelphia Empire furniture. At the beginning of the 19th century Greek-inspired architecture gained popularity in Philadelphia and the city became known for its classically-inspired monumental buildings. Newly designed structures of ancient inspiration were decorated with classical furniture that became the prevailing style in private homes as well as public buildings. ... moreThe arrival of immigrant craftsmen from Europe in the early 19th century and their subsequent collaboration with American furniture makers produced highly sophisticated Empire designs. Neither French nor English. The designs incorporated purely American elements and became known as American Empire. Nineteenth-century Philadelphia Empire craftsmen were particularly well-known for their extensive motif carving, which often has a fluid, three-dimensional character. Philadelphia Empire Furniture’ illustrates in color and describes in detail hundreds of Philadelphia decorative art forms from this period. Including wood types, dimensions, and maker(if known) Chapters are dedicated to each of the following forms: card tables, platform pedestal tables, pier tables, worktables, sofas, chairs, sideboards, secretaries, chests, bedsteads, looking glasses, clocks, and other decorative elements. A separate chapter is devoted to the previously unpublished sketchbook of accomplished craftsman Anthony G. Quervelle. Besides Quervelle, other talented and successful Philadelphia furniture makers included Michel Bouvier, Charles White, Cook& Parkin, and Joseph B. Barry, among several. This book
