These chairs that furnished the nation's best-dressed homes at the turn of the century. An actual reprint of the detailed catalogue of the Phoenix Chair Company. CD ROM Title: Victorian Furniture Designs. Catalogs have always performed several roles in the trades and societies they have served and purveyed goods into. First of all. Catalogs educated us as to the current state of the art in commercially available goods. Second, they raise our expectations when we see new goods, ideas, designs, tools, and the methods or lifestyles that they imply or denote. Third, the stimulate us to look to create new methods, ideas, protocols, lifestyles, tools, and technologies or designs of our own. Auction Catalog of Rare Antique American Furniture & Historrical Items. Colonial
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 An auction catalogue for an auction which took place at Sotheby’s in New York. On 20 January, 2006. As the title says, the auction was for“Important Americana: Including Property from the Collection of Elisha Hanson to Benefit the National Gallery of Art. The catalog is full of beautiful antique items, of the sort you would expect to discover in an old American estate or mansion. Tons of furniture, decorative items, lots of rare silver, and much more. Naïve art, grandfather clocks, folk art, paintings, and much more. Items range from 1700s and 1800s– lots of colonial and early American items. The sale consisted of 608 separate lots, all of which have extensive descriptions, all with full colour photos, and some of them even being full-page photos. Each item has a description, giving details of the ... moreartist or workshop, the work itself, dates, material, and so on. Also details of provenance, and provides an estimated price. This is great for the collector, so you can compare the value of these works with others. Also a great reference, as these artworks were assembled here once, only to be dispersed to different private buyers, most not to be seen in public again for a generation. The colour illustrations are stunning, and it’s like having a gallery or museum on your shelf! A great addition for anyone interested in American history, U.S. art, colonial historical material, and so on. The book is large format, measuring about 8 x 11 inches. It has a glossy cover, and is 484 pages long. The book is used, but in good condition. With only minor shelf wear, the book is in good condition. The glossy pages make this extremely heavy(well over 3 pounds) so the top bidder should add $13.90 postage in Canada, 18.90 postage to the USA. I have other, similar catalogs up now, so check that out too, and save on postage. Please e-mail me if you have any questions, and thanks for bidding!

For the first time in modern publication, the styles of furniture available at the height of the 1920's, a pivotal period between Art Nouveau, Art Deco. The Depression year 1932 was the very worst year in the history of the furniture industry and most of the companies that failed did so in the four years between 1928 and 1932. Therefore. ANTIQUE AMERICAN FURNITURE & ANTIQUES -the 1929 GIRL SCOUT EXHIBITION CATALOG
Loan Exhibition of Eighteenth Century and Early Nineteenth Century Furniture& Glass. Portraits by Stuart. Peale and others, for the Benefit of the National Council of Girl Scouts, Inc. Published in New York by the American Art Galleries in 1929. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The importance of the Girl Scouts Loan Exhibition cannot be overstated. Although sometimes it seems it has become something of a cliché. Simply put, it was the most important and richest loan exhibition of American antique furniture and other decorative arts ever staged to be drawn in large part from private collections; although it did not start the popularization of American antiques, it contributed largely to its continued success and gave both scholars and collectors new focus; it brought a large number of prominent dealers and collectors ... moretogether in a way which had not been accomplished since the Hudson-Fulton exhibition of 1909; it provided the first broad popular showing of American Federal-period antiques; finally, it inspired an enthusiasm which gave impetus to new books, catalogs and research. The Girl Scout Exhibition is seen by many as the starting point for all serious modern scholarship in the fields of American decorative arts. The catalog features illustrations of fine furniture. Textiles, glass, ceramics and paintings, drawn from notable collections from across the country. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8"x11" 926 items, hundreds of black& white illustrations. Newly bound into hardcovers with the original front cover bound in. CONDITION NOTES: The covers have some light wear and soil(please see the photos. ANTIQUE AMERICAN FURNITURE -PENDLETON HOUSE COLLECTION - RISD CATALOG
American Furniture in Pendleton House” By Christopher P. Monkhouse& Thomas S. Michie. Published in Providence by the Museum of Art. Rhode Island School of Design in 1986. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: Charles Pendleton was one of a group of pioneering collectors of Americana which included Marsden Perry. George Palmer, Thomas B. Clarke, and of course, Luke Vincent Lockwood. He was depicted in Eben Howard Gay's"A Chippendale Romance" in the person of Mr. Remington, a premiere collector of American Chippendale furniture, a"man of middle age and serious aspect, with) the ferret-like nose of the antiquarian, and a sonorous voice whose tones deepened into thrilling vibrations when discoursing upon his pet hobby. His pet hobby soon became a business, and he became one of the first of the major Americana ... morecollector/dealers. His premier collection was one of the first to be presented to an institution, and a specially designed house was built to hold it. A leader of the"scrape and refinish" school, his star became somewhat eclipsed in the decades after his death, but this cannot obscure the beauty and importance of the magnificent collection he built. A full account of his life and collecting is presented in this catalog, which presents the American furniture from the collection, and includes pieces bought since Pendleton's death. 1921 LOUIS GUERINEAU MYERS CATALOG ANTIQUE COLONIAL AMERICAN FURNITURE, ANTIQUES
An Interesting Auction Catalog- Illustrated Catalogue of the Rare and Extremely Choice Collection of Early American and English Furniture and other contemporaneous treasures formed during the past seventeen years by the widely known connoisseur and authority on early furniture and ceramics Mr. Louis Guerineau Myers of New York” The catalog to an auction held in New York by the American Art Galleries on February 24-26. 1921. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The first Myers auction. Which included extremely fine 17th and 18th century American furniture as well as some early American silver and glass, and some fine English lustreware and Wheildon pottery. Louis Guerineau Myers was among the pioneering collectors of American decorative arts in the first decades of the 20th century. Fellow collector R.T.H. Halsey wrote an appreciation ... moreof Myers after his death for the 1932 auction catalog of his collection of antique American furniture. Silver, pewter and accessories, in which he notes- He knew infinitely more about the touch of the old time craftsman and the wiles of the present day forgers than those of us who frequently called upon him. His judgment was unerring. There is no one to take his place. His ability and zeal as a collector has long been evidenced in his collections, and his much sought-after advice greatly improved the quality of several of the important collections of American furniture assembled during the past decade. It is safe to say that had not Louis Guerineau Myers lived, the knowledge of much of the excellence of craftsmanship of our eighteenth century cabinetmakers would not yet have been known to us. He led the way" DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6.5"x9.5" About 150 pages, 709 lots, black& white illustrations. Prices realised written in the margins. CONDITION NOTES: Ex-library. Francis Shaw Collection American Furniture 1935 Auction Catalog Realized Prices
A vintage copy of The Francis Shaw Collection of American Furniture and Decorations auction catalog published in 1935. The auction was held on December 12. 13, and 14, 1935 at the American Art Association Anderson Galleries at 30 East 57th Street in New York City. I have seen other copies of this catalog available from various online sources, but this is the only one I have seen with all of the realized prices noted for each item that was sold, making this nice reference work even more interesting. Calculations at the back of the catalog show that the sale totaled $58,855.50 over the three days. Book does show some signs of age and use. The pages have yellowed somewhat. And the cover over the spine is split although the book is still intact. There is a significant bump on the upper right corner that shows as a slight crease on all of the ... moreinterior pages. Still this is an interesting book, especially with the inclusion of the prices. Shipping for this item will be $6.00 via USPS Priority Mail within the USA. Payment must be made by PayPal. Item will ship as soon as payment is received. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*3A%3Cd%3Ff6%3E-1440bd1e70e-0xe2-

Sollo Rago-20th C. Modern Furniture& Design Auction Catalog Oct 27-28. 2007- Thick catalog NUMBER OF LOTS= 1 TO 1105-thick catalog- Most lots illustrated in color. Great catalog, LIKE NEW CONDITION- This is really a m ust have for collectors. And those interested in modern design. The number of lots, over 1000, most illustrated provides an encyclopedia of good images and descriptions, and prices of modern furniture, glass, pottery, and decorative items. Auction Catalogs. Like the one shown here. Are one off printings. They are printed by auctioneers for specific auctions. They are never reprinted, since the auctioneer needs to protect the copyrights and images of various owners who are selling their merchandise through the auction. This makes many of the auction catalogs collectible, since the supply is always limited- and auctioneers ... moredo not like the heavy expense of overprinting catalogs. Auction Catalogs provide a valuable source for descriptions and images of collectible antiques. Objects, fine art and collectibles. These images and descriptions are very difficult to find in full detail and completely elsewhere. Catalogs help determine relative values of the objects being sold, as many come with auction estimates. Catalogs are a valuable research and visual resource within specific categories. Shipping information- Items will be shipped 3 to 5 days after cleared payment is received. The shipping is through USPS. We will separately quote international. Or priority, or express shipping, or shipping through other carriers. In case of shipping damage. Take photos of the item and the boxes they are in. Saved the materials and packaging. Foreign customs duties are the responsibility of the buyer. At times International shipments can come later than anticipated because of Customs slow-ups. In case your box is lost we will initiate a trace. A customer will be refunded after the insurance claim is paid.

WILLIAM STARBUCK MACY -1906 CATALOG OF ANTIQUE AMERICAN & ENGLISH FURNITURE
An Interesting Auction Catalog- The W. Starbuck Macy Collection. Rare Examples of old English and American Furniture. Pewters, Potteries, Glass, Historical China, etc. including choice and original specimens by Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite” The catalog to an auction held in New York by James P. Silo on November 15-24. 1906. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The sale of an early collection. Most of the illustrated items are furniture. With some historical Staffordshire thrown in. Mr. W.Starbuck Macy. As set forth in the following catalogue, may be summed up in a very few words. Every article contained therein is positively genuine and guaranteed, a rather unusual state of affairs when one comes to deal with the great names of Thomas Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton. The public in general are so apt to attribute ... moreevery piece with a ball-and-claw foot to Chippendale, especially in chairs, and every piece having a bit of inlay to Sheraton, and to confuse the work of Hepplewhite with that of Chippendale, that when one comes to examine the collection made by Mr. Macy it is something of a shock to find that Chippendale has shown in his book of designs only one small hall chair with even a suggestion of a ball-and-claw foot, and that this design is not by any means characteristic of his work, but was also used by other makers of his day. Necessarily all of Sheratons pieces were not inlaid, any more than were the works of Hepplewhite and Thomas Chippendale himself. The matter of inlay was simply a matter of fashion, and we find all of the great furniture makers at the time using it. Mr. Macy has shown wonderful knowledge in assembling so vast a collection of the various domestic works of art of a bygone age, and it is doubtful whether there is a man with his catholic knowledge and ability among the present day connoisseurs in this line. The manufacture of the modern antique(to use an anachronism) has been so widespread that it has only whetted the appetite of the real collector f
