Onyx was oftentimes more costly than either gold or silver, and one ancient reference recorded it as more valuable than sapphire. Onyx was used in ancient Egypt as early as the Second Dynasty(about 2800 B.C. to make bowls and other items. Onyx also was amongst the artifacts recovered of Minoan Crete(about 1800 B.C. notably from the archaeological discoveries at Knossos. Onyx became particularly famous in the hands of both the Greeks and Romans, who as described by the first century Roman historian and naturalist“Pliny the Elder” crafted beautiful intaglio seals out of onyx. Size 7(resizing available) Not cheap silver electroplate! This is a high-quality. Solid sterling silver designer ring manufactured by one of America’s leading semi-custom mount manufacturers. NOTE: Resizing is available(may incur nominal extra cost depending on size required) DESCRIPTION: The ancient Egyptians believed that the skin of their gods was composed of gold. And their bones were thought to be of silver. When silver was introduced into Egypt, it probably was more valuable than gold(silver was rarer and more valuable than gold in many Mesoamerican cultures as well) In surviving inventories of valuables, items of silver were listed above those of gold during the Old Kingdom. Jewelry made of silver was almost always thinner than gold pieces, as indicated by the bracelets of the 4th Dynasty(about 2,500 B.C. Queen Hetephere I, in marked contrast to the extravagance of her heavy gold jewelry. A silver treasure excavated by archaeologists and attributable to the reign of Amenemhat II who ruled during the 12th Dynasty(about 1900 B.C. contained fine silver items which were actually produced in Crete, by the ancient Minoans. Celebrating that heritage. Here’s a gorgeous, high quality sterling silver semi-custom sterling silver ring. The ring is robustly constructed, much more substantial and heavier than the typical ring band. Please do not confuse this with cheap silver electroplate. This is a high-quality ring manufactured right here in the USA by one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of gold and sterling silver semi-custom mounts. It’s an heirloom quality ring designed and produced to last a lifetime…and beyond! HISTORY OF SILVER: After gold. Silver is the metal most widely used in jewelry and the most malleable. The oldest silver artifacts found by archaeologists date from ancient Sumeria about 4,000 B.C. At many points in t

We mounted the beads onto high quality– not cheap gold plated– rather high quality french hooks. This is first-quality jewelry designed to last years and years. Not cheap costume jewelry. If you prefer, we could remount the faience beads onto sterling silver french hooks. CONSTRUCTION: Faience. A primitive form of ceramic, was the ancient forerunner of modern glass, and was used by the Ancient Egyptians as far back as 3000 B.C. to fashion various amulets, beads, and other items of personal adornment. Most amulet/necklaces were both worn on a daily basis for protection, as well as buried with the dead to afford protection in the journey from this life to the next. Some bead necklaces were purely items of personal adornment, as these might have been so worn. Faience was produced by crushing quartz mixed with copper, and made into a paste. The paste was then placed in a mold, and then fired. The quartz would fuse, and the copper would give the resu
