Joshaghan rugs are crafted in the town of Joshaghan in central Iran. This small town was an important centre for rug-weaving for centuries due to its location on the path between Isfahan and Kashan until Tehran became an important city. Joshaghan rugs are woven on cotton foundations with wool pile using Persian knots. Today, because of their high quality and limited production they are fairly expensive and considered to be good investments.

Sarouk (Sarough/Sarouq) is a village located in the province of Markazi in central Persia. The rugs made here are well known and are designed with either geometric or curvilinear patterns. Sarouk rugs are built on a cotton foundation with good quality wool cut to a medium length making up the pile. The original older, and most expensive rugs, are hard woven with top quality lustrous wool which is cut very short. Color is made up from strong red, blue, burnt orange, black, ivory or champagne. Knot counts range on average from about 120 KPSI to 450 KPSI.

The tribal hand-woven rugs here are treasured pieces and are known to be durable, lasting generations of heavy wear. Almost all the Hamadan rugs are woven on a cotton foundation using hardy wool from the sheep used to a cooler mountainous climate for the pile. Typically the rugs have a geometrical design often with a single central medallion. The rugs are of good quality are generally long lasting. Colors are predominantly made up of strong reds and blues with ivory used as a contrast.

This hand made Persian Kashan rug is made with 100% wool and is good condition. Kashan rugs are typically high-quality, many incorporating silk into their designs. The foundation tends to be cotton however some of the finest examples may be pure silk. The wool should be soft and the pile tightly knotted. The knot count (KPSI) can range from 100 to over 800 per square inch for the most majestic (and expensive) examples. The majority of Kashan's have a similar design with a central medallion and Persian floral motifs forming the pattern, however as with most regions designs may vary. Popular colours are ivory, green and red with soft greens and blues found in newer rugs.
