The Mummy: Unwrap The Ancient Secrets of the Mummies’ Tombs by Joyce Tyldesley. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 128 pages. Publisher: Carlton Book; 1999) ISBN: ... more1858687713. Tyldesley wraps basically familiar information into intriguing bits of details and highlights it all with recent knowledge and findings. She shows how research into ancient history yields facts about even the most aged mummies. The author begins her historical account by considering the most ancient dried bodies buried in the arid environment of Egypt and then provides a general overview of the customs and techniques of mummification through the ages. While some of the information may be familiar. Such as the evisceration of major organs in the bodies of the pharaohs, there are details to whet interest. For example, it wasn't uncommon for the ancient Egyptians to have their pets mummified and sacred animals were mummified by the millions. Tyldesley also includes some novels and movies and shows how these media have affected the general public's belief about the practice. The author's easy-to-read and comprehensive writing style is teamed up with plenty of photographs and current information to give young adults an enticing view of this popular topic. CONDITION: Light shelf wear and rubbing to the cover. Otherwise in Great Like New condition. PLEASE SEE IMAGES BELOW FOR JACKET DESCRIPTION(S) AND FOR PAGES OF PICTURES FROM INSIDE OF BOOK. NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: In ancient India citrine was used to protect children from evil spirits. And as an aid finding a suitable match for marriage. Citrine was also an export trade good, which traveled from Southern India to ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. The first mention of citrine in ancient Mediterranean sources comes from the fourth century B.C. Greeks. The Greeks and Romans used citrine for intaglios and in jewelry as well during the first and second centuries. The gemstones would reach Rome and Greece either via the Silk Route(if overland) or if by sea, they would have crossed the Arabian and Red Sea by ship, then overland to Alexandria in Egypt, before being distributed by trade across and around the Mediterranean. Celebrating mankind's cultural inheritance here is a large. Very clean, 1antique cognac-brandy colored faceted citrine from the Devonian lava beds found along the coast of Angus Country, Scotland. Very popular in 18th and 19th century Victorian Scotland, citrine has remained a very popular gemstone through the 20th century. The gemstone was hand crafted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia. Complete second century A.D. Roman glass perfume bottle(or“unguentarium” which possesses a light iridescent burial patina with purple, pink, blue and green highlights. Most Roman glass vessels recovered complete(intact or repairable) are between 1½ and 3 inches in size– this one obviously exceeds the high end of this scale. However though complete, in a sense it is not intact. The glass perfume bottle was broken, whether in ancient times or perhaps when it was excavated, as there is a fairly clean break toward the bottom. The repair however seems to have been made with bitumen(tar) which would indicate that the repair was ancient. Some of the bitumen has been lost, so there is a small hole in the side of the bottle. But it appears to have been repaired and reused in ancient Rome– a rather uncommon find. Small jars. Pitchers, unguentariums, jugs, bottles, jars and flasks like this were used to contain aromatic oils, perfumes, medicinal ointments, and cosmetics. It is not to say that the Romans did not use larger pieces of glass on their tables such as bowls and cups; and even larger containers for transporting foodstuffs; because they did. In fact whatever the Romans had produced in clay in the first and second centuries B.C. was by the first and second centuries A.D. more common

Iolite was used by Norse and Viking explorers as a navigational aid, as a properly oriented stone would change color in relation to the direction of sunlight, allowing for crude navigation in the fog-enshrouded northern Atlantic waters where the direction of the sun was otherwise impossible to discern. Mined from deposits in Norway and Greenland, it was called“water sapphire” by some as it is clear from one direction, light blue from another, and from the third direction, light yellow or gray. Its darkest blue-violet shade is seen when held 90 degrees from the sun. It is believed that the Vikings would use thin slices of iolite as polarizing filters, allowing them to look directly at the sun and determine its exact location in the sky. WEIGHT: 0.49 carats(the pair) NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: In the world of the ancient Mediterranean(including the Greeks. Romans, Persians, Hebrews, and the various Indo-European Celtic tribes) priests and sorcerers honored the sapphire above all other gems, believing that sapphire enabled them to interpret oracles and foretell the future. Medieval sorcerers believed that sapphire enabled them to hear and understand the most obscure oracles. Not only did sapphire help to get in touch with astral and psychic realms, but the stone also provided protection for those who took those journeys. On the flip side, Medieval populations believed that wearing a sapphire as a talisman was an antidote to black magic and effects of evil spirits, and provided protection against sorcery. It was believed to banish evil spirits and send negative spells back to the sender. Sapphires have been since ancient times one of the most highly valued of all gemstones, and references to the gemstone date back to about 800 B.C. Here are two gorgeous. Delicately colored natural sky blue sapphire precious gemstones from the Ural Mountains of Russia. These gemstones were hand crafted into these very beautiful faceted ovals on the late 19th century. The results are two exquisite and incredibly richly colored precious gemstones with lots of fire and sparkle. They are a beautiful sky blue with a very light undertone, very similar in appearance to the sky blue of sapphires from Ceylon and Siam(Sri Lanka and Thailand) Such good quality blue sapphires are in high demand, and can be quite costly. DETAIL: Cronus” Or“Kronos” was the ancient Greek counterpart to the ancient Roman’s Saturn. Cronus was the leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans, the divine descendants of Gaia(the earth) and Uranus(the sky) In ancient Greek mythology Cronus overthrew his father and ruled during the mythological Golden Age, until in turn he was overthrown by his own son, Zeus, and imprisoned in Tartarus. Both to the ancient Greeks as well as to the ancient Romans, who knew him as“Saturn” Cronus/Saturn was a major god presiding over agriculture and the harvest time. His reign was depicted as a Golden Age of abundance and peace. Many linguists and scholars believe that the name sapphire is derived from its association with the planet Saturn(the name can be roughly translated to mean“dear to the planet Saturn” in many different languages) A week-long solstice feast called Saturnalia is believed by scholars to be the basis of the carnival(as in Mardi-Gras) Here's a gorgeous solid 9kt gold ring of good quality manufacture. Size 7. The highlight of the ring of course is the five exquisite 3 millimeter round yellow sapphire precious gemstones. These are hand cut and hand faceted Siberian(Russian) yellow sapphires. They are clean to the eye and transparent. The color of the gemstones is gorgeous, and the transparent quality and brilliant sparkle obvious when the light catches them, or they are held up to a light source. They are very beautiful gemstones. And they are mounted onto a very nice quality ring constructed of solid 9kt gold. Not gold-plated or gold-filled
