Excellent condition, strong and comfortable Hello. I would be happy to have it shipped for you. I put local pick up in the items description because Ebay always seems to put to low a price for shipping valuable or fragile items that have to be shipped and properly insured, like this item. We use several different movers that only ship antiques, ... moreso what ever they charge is what you would pay. But yes, I would be happy to take care of that after I get their shipping quote. Yours truly, Thomas Perry Check out our about me page. OneofaKindAntiques.com has over 1400 items listed available from Renaissance to Modern. American Windsor Sack Back Antique Arm Chair, possibly Rhode Island c. 1780-90
AMERICAN WINDSOR SACK BACK ARM CHAIR. NEW ENGLAND STATES Possibly Rhode Island. C. 1780-1800 Item# 112CRD02 With a very attractive profile. This American Windsor Sack Back armchair makes a striking selection for a well fitted period interior. Probably originating from Rhode Island, the chair exhibits many characteristics associated with chairs from that region, though the closeness in form to works from Boston and Connecticut make a firm attribution a bit difficult and will require further research. The plank seat is a single solid board of chestnut. Carved for comfort and oval in form with a thin channel along the back outlining the gallery of spindles- chestnut is commonly found in seats of Rhode Island windsors, along with yellow poplar, maple, walnut and basswood. An old crack in the seat is healed from the underside with a butterfly ... moredovetail joint. Remnants of a green paint over a milky white paint are visible on the underside of the chair. The steam bent crest rail wraps around the middle seven spindles, each of which tenon through the crest and poke over the top, before completing on either side in a square tenon through the arm rail. The surface of the hickory arm rail is just delightfully worn. The grains completely filled from years of friction and wax; the short spindles and turned red oak arm supports tenon through the rail and are secured with a split-wedge tenon- the turned oak arm supports are also locked in place from the sides with square pegs and join the chair firmly through the seat. Examples of the distinctively shaped arm pad are prevalent in the lengthy section on Rhode Island windsors c. 1750-80 in Goyne's text(see below) It rests over four handsomely splayed turned maple ring-and-baluster legs locked in place with a maple H-form stretcher. The medial stretcher shows a bold swell, in tandem with the sides, this flanked by sharp rings on either side. With good strength in all joints. It is an outstanding acquisition for any collector with an eye for New England forms in windsor chairs
Early American 19th Century Windsor Spindle Back Side Chair, Provenance
Early American Spindle Back Side Chair*I can send pictures or digital files if you would like more information on the maker/original owners. Please message me with a request. Thanks! Happy Holidays! Provenance of Chair: Original owners were Luther Billings Wetherbee born 11/23/1809 of Mayflower stock. Who was married 11/9/1831 in Hardwick, Mass. to Charlotte Watson Adams(of President Adams Family) Luther's father was Phinehas Wetherbee born 02/27/1770, Brookfield, Mass. married to Lydia_ born 05/02/1770. Luther Billings Wetherbee was a highly prosperous farmer from Hardwick, Mass. who moved to Illinois in 1837. Luther's son Edwin Cheney Wetherbee was born 04/29/1842 in Sterling, IL he was married on 03/04/1868 to Hannah Eckles(sister of Charles Eckles who served in the Civil War as a Sargent promoted to Captain, State Senate/State ... moreCongress as well as being a Farmer) Edwin served a 100 day service duty. He called himself"A Down East Yankee" He attended Poughkeepsie Business School. He worked in his youth as for a Chair Factory in the East which is probably why he inherited the chair. After Edwin's death the chair when to Hannah. Hannah passed them on to her nephew Walter Eckles and onto his daughter. I am the current owner. After Edwin and Hannah were married they moved onto a farm in Marshall Co. where I live) in the Vienna Township(present day Beaman, IA) I will send PDF's of the full version with the chair. I don't want to type all of the pages out. This gives you an idea of the history. The only part that I am not sure of is which Whitney made them. John Whitney of W.F. Whitney Company or Jonathan Whitney(he seems like the one since he was producing chairs even before he founded his company) I have contacted several places with books on their marks. But have heard nothing back yet. I will also send some digital high resolution images of Erwin and Hannah. I don't have any pictures of Luther. Age: 1820's-1840's(Luther moved in 1837 and was no longer a chair maker. But he

Rare American Fanback Antique Windsor Side Chair, Lancaster, Pennsylvania c.1790
AMERICAN FANBACK WINDSOR SIDE CHAIR. LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Circa 1790-1810 Item# 502FQS14P A fine and rare acquisition. This seven-spindle American Fanback Windsor side chair features a wonderful serpentine crest rail curling in carved fanback ears, the spindles sinking into this and several affixed with wooden pins driven through. On either side, crisply turned stiles of a complex ring-and-baluster form are stylized with double-bead scratch decorations around the swell of the primary baluster, these tenoned entirely through the seat for strength. The ovular seat is carefully carved out with a raised ridge at the midmost point for support and comfort. Each of the four legs tenon through the seat and are joined with split-wedge tenons. The blunt-arrow tipped front legs feature the barrel-and-baluster form leg highly typical of Pennsylvania ... morecraftsmen, a scratch bead highlighting the center of the barrel where the H-form stretchers join the four legs. The medial stretcher generally features a bold swell with flanking ring turnings on this form(see notes below) leading us to question the originality of the stretchers, as these can be easily worn out and broken over time- we believe them to be original, after having spent a great deal of time examining them, but ask that you verify this on your own prior to purchasing. For the serious collector of American furnishings. This is a wonderful acquisition that remains incredibly sturdy and stable, a work of art that can be actively enjoyed in the home. References and Further Reading: American Windsor Chairs. Nancy Goyne: Fig. 3-67. 3-68, 3-69, 3-72 all depict chairs of nearly identical form except for having boldly turned side stretchers and double ringed baluster medial stretchers, 3-73 with variation in having a bamboo turned stretcher and leg structure; all five examples originate in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania c. 1790-1810. Fig. 3-104 depicts a fanback side chair of Southeastern Pennsylvania origin with identical stretchers to the present example, tho
American Bowback Windsor Antique Side Chair w/ Bamboo Turnings c. 1800
AMERICAN BOWBACK WINDSOR SIDE CHAIR. PENNSYLVANIA Probably Philadelphia or surrounding counties. C. 1800 Item# 502RZX14 A very well preserved piece of early 19th century material culture. This fine American Bowback Windsor side chair originates from Pennsylvania during the first years of the century, probably the outskirts of Philadelphia c. 1800-10. Retaining an old crusty surface in the less exposed portions of the chair, under the legs and stretchers, beneath the seat and tucked inside the scratched beading of the crest rail, the piece remains in as nearly original of a state as is likely to survive. The shield form seat is carved out and shaped for comfort, the crest rail tenoned through the edges of the seat on either side around the long tapered spindles that drop in shallow wells in the seat, all of this surrounded by a shallow channel ... moreetched around the back of the seat. We have not had the woods microanalyzed, but the crest rail appears to be ash, the spindles ash or hickory, the seat a wonderful worn solid plank of yellow pine, the legs and stretchers turned from soft maple. The legs tenon through the seat and are affixed with a split wedge tenon. The legs are turned in a manner rather specific to Philadelphia and the outlying counties, each in a bamboo-style of turning with a double baluster turning along the medial stretcher and each leg, the side stretchers with a single swollen baluster. This form of chair is extensively documented in this region, see reference notes below. For the serious collector of American furnishings. This is a wonderful acquisition that can be actively enjoyed in the home. References and Further Reading: Three Hundred Years of American Seating Furniture.
