Their villages are situated to the south-east of Isfahan and have been weaving rugs for export since the early 19th century. Based on a cotton foundation these carpets are generally crafted using the wool taken from the tribe’s own herd, therefore the quality and sheen can differ from carpet to carpet depending on the village of origin. Many consider Bakhtiari to be similar to their Lori counterparts, colors used vary but various tones of reds and browns are common as well as ivory with blue very rarely found.

The rugs are famed for their hardwearing and durable qualities, some of the toughest rugs you will find and are extremely popular with modern interiors. The wool used is of a high quality and despite its durability it is surprisingly soft to the touch. Design is tribal and tends to geometrically adapt versions of certain Tabriz patterns; they have an eight-sided geometric medallion in the centre, usually surrounded with lighter earthly and rustic tones.
