Up for auction is an antique Half Gallon"Mason Fruit Jar" Crock. This great crock was produced by the Union Stoneware Co. in Red Wing. Minn. There is a Ball zinc screw on lid with a milk white glass interior seal. There is printing on the front of the Crock and the bottom is stamped with the date Jan 24, 1899. This Crock is in excellent antique used condition with only one small chip on the bottom edge and some spots of normal wear. There are no cracks. There are some surface imperfections and glaze deposits from factory manufacturing. The approximate measurements are 8 1/4" high and 5 3/4" across the bottom.This Crock would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Here is a nice EARLY EXAMPLE of the RECENTLY DISCOVERED SWEENEY pottery in HENRICO COUNTY VIRGINIA. It is a one gallon with FLOWER DECORATION on both sides. It measures 6 3/4 inches in width at the tip and 5 1/2 inches at the base. It is around 1850 with a little roughage at the base. Both handles have been repaired. The pot rings nicely too. It does appear that the cobalt blue on the handles is almost all original. Repair is GOOD. GREAT OLD CROCK. Buyer pays $17.50 domestic shipping and handling. International S&H will be more.

The stoneware in the cobalt blue and gray colors are typical of the city of Betschdorf. A potters' village since the 16th. The firing is made with salt. ANTIQUE FRENCH STONEWARE This is a beautiful stoneware typical and traditional of the Alsace région. In the east of France. This pot has beautiful cobalt decorations all around. There are two handles. It dates from the years 1920-40. There is a small chip on the base that is a manufacturing flaw. It has a couple tiny chips on the rim. Pleased to offer this beauty of a crock lid. I am not sure which crock maker produced this. It has a wonderful button handle with decorative embossing on it and ribbed pattern around it. Nice brown glaze center on top and interior. Clay exposed on top appears yellow. Embossed with a"3" 3 Gal) but it would possibly work on a 4 or even 5 gallon crock. I had it on a 5 gal and it covered opening. Just didn't extend to outside edge. Check measurements for your crock. PLEASE NOTE: The brown glaze had a white film on it in places(almost like salt or tainted water got on it) I cleaned and applied Linseed oil(not greasy) which restored it's beauty. In the future it may require a re-treatment of oil or polish. BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE STONEWARE 3 QUART CROCK MADE IN USA COMBINATION HIGH AND MATTE GLAZE This is a very nice 3 quart stoneware crock with an unusual combination of high gloss and matte glazes. The upper portion is a rich brown high gloss glaze followed by a band of high gloss lighter brown and dark brown. The lower portion is a matte tannish speckled glaze. They feel different to the touch and you can feel the ridge indicating that the high gloss glaze was added later. High gloss glaze on the inside as well-this crock can be used! Measures 4 5/8"high with an 8" diameter. It is marked on the bottom with the form number"1265" 3 qt" and"USA" I do not know the maker. Condition: Excellent overall for its age with only small minor defects. No cracks. Chips, breaks, or crazing.
