Vintage Folk Tramp Art Cigar Box Thumb Piano Bamboo Rake Tine Keys Nice Sound!
Old Cigar Box Thumb Piano Neat Sound I can only guess about this one; it came from a packed unkempt estate where most of the items in the immediate area dated from the late 1920's up to maybe early 60's. This appears to me to be quite old with restoration done at some point to make it play worthy. The way you see it is the way we got it. Straight from the outbuilding storage. The pluckers are bamboo rake tines and are tuned by sliding forward or back under the big nail. It has a great sound and it is quite remarkable how closely it can be tuned. I believe that the original back may have been removed and replaced. Probably to access the lashing to replace it. When that was done I can't say, but I believe it couldn't have been done any later than the 1960's. Who knows on this one; I have never encountered another. Cigar ... moreBox Guitars and Banjos with any age to them are not easy to find. But I have seen more examples of those. This could be American or maybe from the Caribbean? Antique Tramp art Bird made with metal body with small glass chips over-lay. I am not positive of the exact composition of the bird's body. But feet and tail are metal with a brown material between the metal and the glass chip overlay. Body is very hard and solid on the outside. Bird measures 12 inches from beak to end of tail. FABULOUS ANTIQUE TRAMP ART BOX DATED 1896
This is one of the nicest tramp boxes I've ever seen. It measures 10 7/8" wide. 6 7/8" high, and 6" front to back. Depending on the section of the box, it has four to five layers of terrific carvings with great designs and what I suppose was someone's intials, the date, 1896, red paper lining the inside, that shows a bit of fading and wear, with a mirror mounted in the lid. The condition of this box is very nice. There are some dings and nicks, as you might expect, along with some scattered broken or missing finials from around the edge of the lid. The box has brass lions head pulls on the lid and lower drawer. the bail is missing from the handle on top. Please view the photos carefully for a good evaluation. The lid does not close completely. STRIKING LARGE ANTIQUE TRAMP ART FRAME
This frame was a real find. It came out of an old barn in the Czech Republic. After cleaning years of dust from it. This gem emerged. It measures 16 1/2" x 20 1/2" The picture opening is 12 7/8" x 16 7/8" The frame is sturdy and stable and has no signs of wood worm. It has five layers of carvings in a pyramid design. Victorian Prison Art Tramp Art Sewing Box
This is a mid to late 19th century work box/sewing box that falls under the category of folk or tramp art. It is made out of thousands of inlaid pieces. The drawers have been repaired or remade along the way. It is mirrored on both sides of the lid and the inside of the lid is a pin cushion. There is wear to the wood in parts and the original lining. It measures 23" long. 6" tall and 14.5" across. There are color markings on the box a and I don't know the origin of these. It looks like a felt marker was used to draw a design. Unfortunately it looks like a child or someone tampered with the box in the 20th century. There is a piece missing on the edge of the lid: a chip 3/4" long.

UNUSUAL LARGE TRAMP ART SEWING BOX c.1930.
UNUSUAL LARGE TRAMP ART SEWING BOX. This is a wonderful box. I'd say from the 1920's when it was popular. It is NOT made from cigar boxes or such, but pine. It does not have the usual dark stain, but is painted with a thinnish brown gloss paint. The bottom is nicely oxidized showing the age and again no sign of staining and a repaint. The inside has dowels for 3 spools of thread, and a small in place tray. There are minor age abrasions, but condition is very good. There is also a recentish screw repair on the handle, hardly noticeable. It must have been well loved. It measures 12.5 inches long, 11.5 inches high and 8.5 inches wide. This is not a form or a chipping pattern I'm used too in this folk art.

Old Asian tramp art carved wooden chest box
Ornately carved wooden chest- box with an Asian Design. The chest is carved on all sides and the top. It is dusty due to age and I haven't cleaned it but leave that to the buyer. The chest when closed measures approximately 15 inches long. 8.25 inches wide, and 8 inches tall. Empty weight is a bit over 8 pounds. The hinges and closure works very well. There is a removable shelf inside with a small covered section to one end. It has 2 inch curved feet which are applied with screws. The bottom has been marked Teakwood but I don't know about that. I thought that teakwood was less heavy. It is stamped on the inside"Made in Hong Kong. Could be a camphor box as there are similar listings. Antique oak Hand Carved TRAMP ART folding wood frame
TRAMP ART FOLDING FRAME This is a beautiful wood frame with side panels that fold in. The carving has a flower at the top of each panel with scroll work and leaves on the sides and a banner at the bottom. The back of each opening of the frame has carved wooden pieces that turn and open to insert pictures. One side of the frames does not have glass. The other side has a broken piece of glass and the center glass is in tact without any breaks. The workmanship is incredible, surely a prized piece for a collector. Stands 17" tall base is 15" x 5 1/2" width of frame with doors open is 25" side frame 8 x 11 1/4" window opening is 6 1/2 x 4 1/2" center fram is 17" tall x 11" window opening is 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" The wood appears to be oak.

WWII Italian POW Tramp Art Building Made from Matchsticks DESCRIPTION: Roof lifts off to access the interior of a dresser box with two compartments. According to the label on the underside of the roof. The building was constructed by one Angelo Milani while a Prisoner of War in October of 1944. According to Wikipedia, Milani would have been only one of 425,000 WWII detainees held on American soil but the majority of those were Germans. Camps holding Italian POWs included Camp Ono in San Bernardino, CA, Camp Atterbury in Indiana, Camp Lordsburg in New Mexico, Fort Missoula in Montana, Fort Meade in Maryland and Fort Lawton in Washington. The building measures 3 x 5 inches and about 3.25 inches to the ridge line. It was constructed on a 5.5 x 7.25 inch masonite platform. Exterior is made of short lengths of matchsticks glued to a thin but quite ... morerigid frame. The interior of the box is lined with paper. Roof shingles were made of scalloped pieces of either heavy paper or thin cardboard. The matchsticks appear to be varnished but it's possible they were given a thin coat of rubber cement. The balance of the exterior including the windows was artfully painted. CONDITION: Overall condition is excellent. Most of the damage is where the shingles that hung over the roof edge have chipped off. There is also some paper separation on the inside of the box. This is a great old"tramp art" frame. Very simple in design. But very pretty. The overall size is 9 1/4" x 11" the opening is 4 3/4" x 6 5/8" and the glass or rabbet size is 5 3/4" x 7 1/2" The frame is comprised of 4 layers of chipped carvings, with the exception of the lower left corner which has only 3 layers. This appears to be in original condition. So the maker must have intended this. Actually I just noticed it. And I've had this for awhile. There are 3 spots that are missing a chip. Amazing Miniature Spoon Carved Eastlake Folk/Tramp Art Cupboard Oak & Pine
Miniature Eastlake Cupboard Extraordinary Craftsmanship& Attention To Detail As dealers. Every once and a while we come across something that we really want to keep; this is one of those items. It is quite honestly a work of art. I couldn't even guess how many hours of love went into this perfectly scaled and highly detailed miniature tall cupboard. This amazing cabinet is only 17 1/4" tall x 10 5/8" wide x 5" deep. The front and doors appear to be either oak or chestnut with the top. Bottom, sides and back appearing to be pine. It looks and smells to me like it is in original finish. No linseed oil or furniture polish. If you have much experience with antique furniture, you know what I mean. It has that old furniture smell. The back is single piece; the sides and 4 piece front are fitted into slots like floating panel ... moredoors. It is constructed just like a full sized cupboard would be. All of the wood is hand planed. The spindles are either hand turned or carved, the hardware is hand made from wire and all of the details are hand carved or impressed. One spindle is missing from one door as seen, and it has a couple of white paint dots on one door; otherwise truely excellent condition. I see no restoration repairs; it is solid and clean. No splits or cracks but the top is slightly bowed, just like a full sized one that is showing it's age. It has a very few tiny wire brad nails in it. So I would guess it is no earlier than 1880 and no later than perhaps 1910. Note that the knob on the door has the same impressed design as the centers of the"flowers" on the doors. Antique Folk Tramp Art Model Wood White Star Ship SS Atlantic Sailboat Steamship
Spectacular handmade antique model ship of the Steam and Sailing ship the White Star Line SS(RMS) Atlantic. This amazing piece of folk art was entirely made of wood. Cardboard( sails) string, with some indication some of the parts made from old cigar boxes. Details of stacks, smoke being made of steel wool) riggings, life boats, rope ladders,steps etc are incredible. Ship measures approx. 25" long; 16" tall and 3.5" wide. The resting box is approx. 31.25" long; 8.25" wide and 2" deep. An interesting point is that the name on the ship(only on one side) is done in mirror image, so perhaps that was because it was displayed in front of a mirror or may have been some superstitious act of the maker. The S/S Atlantic was Built in Belfast by in 1870. And sailed between England and New York. She had a tonnage of 3,707 ... moregross tons. She had a single screw, with 4 cylinders delivering 600 horse power. She also had 4 masts rigged for sail as can be seen on the picture. Her length was 420 feet. Breadth 40 feet, and depth 31 feet. The first substantial loss for the company came only four years after its founding. Occurring in 1873 with the sinking of the and the loss of 535 lives near. While en route to New York from Liverpool amidst a vicious storm. The Atlantic attempted to make port at Halifax when a concern arose that the ship would run out of coal before reaching New York. However. When attempting to enter Halifax, she ran aground on the rocks and sank in shallow waters. Despite being so close to shore, a majority of the victims of the disaster drowned. The crew were blamed for serious navigational errors by the Canadian Inquiry, although a British Board of Trade investigation cleared the company itself of all extreme wrongdoing. It measures approximately 4" by 2 1/2" by 2" tall. It is in almost perfect condition except for a dot sized area of missing paint on a suitcase strap. It is made of an unknown type of stone or mineral which feels very hard. It weighs slightly over 2 oz. It depicts a slightly bulging suitcase with a Hobo shoe and foot and clothes sticking out. Up for auction is a unique vintage wood. Hand-carved heart shaped decoration. I bought them at an estate sale, so I don't know the maker or the age. I think it's called"tramp art" I am not an expert on antiques so I have no clue, I bought it because it was unusual. It is solid wood, but I don't know what kind of wood. It is 5 inches tall and 2 inches think with a hand painted floral piece on the front. It has a hold craved out of the top so it could be used for a bud vase without water. PA Dimensions: 15"L x 8 3/4"D x 7 1/2"H Weight: 4 lbs 4oz Available for your acquisition is this very large chip carved Tramp Art box with old paper lining. It has a double pedestal. Lacquer finish, and is entirely hand made. It is missing the top portion of the closure hardware but the lid closes flush. There is a small dent on the middle panel of the lid and some other minor abrasians which are not unusual for a piece that has been used for over 100 years. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, or signs of warping. The small nails in the top portion of the back hinges are slightly lose and could be replaced or glued.
