The quality of silver used for this piece is 950-1000, higher than sterling silver(925) The ladle has a beautifully turned wooden handle in attractive dark wood. The bowl of the ladle is scalloped and has a lip for pouring. This ladle would have been used for serving alcoholic punch, and is entirely useable for any similar purpose today, though it would be equally impressive simply as a display piece. This is a very high quality and well-made piece, and would be an asset to any table or collection. The reverse of the shaft is hallmarked with the French 1st standard Minverva's head guarantee mark. Indicating.950 silver purity. The bowl is also stamped with the French 1st standard mark. The maker's mark is B L with what looks like a candlestick between, so we believe this is made by Boucheron& Le Sache, whose mark fits this description, but we are not sure. The ladle is in excellent condition. There are no cracks or splits to the wooden handle. And it is very well attached to the silver ladle. There are no splits, no monograms, and no repairs to the silver. The ladle is approximately 11 1/8 inches long. The ladle weighs 36.5 grams. Good luck and bid with confidence. The ... moredate is circa 1910 The vases are 11" high with an elongated. Slender, baluster body, spreading to domed circular base 4" wide, narrowing at the neck 2 ¾" The signature is in green. 1 inch below the mouth and reads as"Leg. It is the signature that Legras used on the production that wasn't cameo or acid etched. Mont Joy-Legras& Cie, Verreries et Cristalleries) Legras produced quite a range of different and original art glass. However a significant part of their production followed the styles of Galle, Daum, Moser, Rene Lalique, Schneider etc. Sometime in the late 1920 Legras’s production of art glass effectively ceased. The glass is in at least two layers. A clear inner layer, and the outer layer with the yellow powdered colored glass added with a hand painted green cascading vine and tendrils design. There are no chips or cracks. There is some wear to the body commensurate with age and use and they would benefit from a professional clean. Not knowing how to best clean this type of glass. Additional Information: A Janus Reliquary Figure(Byeri Figures) from the Fang people(Ntumu Sub-group Northern Fang) Equatorial Guinea. This Janus guardian figure is not often noted among the Fang, although early reports mention male-female reliquary figures on shrines. This is a Very strong sculpture with a lot of presence! As sculpture. These Byeri figures stand out as a fine example of good carving in a later Fang style, and the sculptural detail is testament to the Fang artist who shaped them. Fang memorial sculpture has a long history of use and was in fact photographed as early as 1907(Tessmann 1913/1972, vol. II) However the cult of Byeri began to lose its prominence after 1910 due to colonial government pressure. During migrations which took place in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the Fang people moved to their present area becoming part of a complex overlay of population of approximately 200,000 which stretches from southern Cameroon into Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Living in small forest communities, the Fang focused upon tightly knit kinship and lineage systems. Stressing continuity and relationships, the kinship system was employed to emphasize the veneration of ancestors through the use of figurative sculptures. Each lineage's ancestors were located in family shrines, housing memorials or reliquary boxes known as byeri, containing their bones, under the care of an elder known as the Esa. The ancestors were consulted before any serious event such as hunting, traveling, marriage, war, or planting was undertaken. The Esa, the shrine keeper, was the oldest living member of the clan
