Tufts, Quadruple plate of sterling silver plate. This has a gorgeous heavy repousse around the base with a very nice oxidation below the surface which allows the design to shine and be prominant. The top is handtooled with the frosted silver; a lovely shine reflexs off the top and the base where you can see my reflection while I am taking the picture for you to see the markings. This is rare because most Victorian casket were actually in a gold plate. The silverplate holds up better with an exquisite shine and more design interest. Description: Antique Victorian jewelry box with an unusual shape. Sort of like a grand piano. The box is metal and was originally painted. The paint is now faded and worn, giving it a lovely look. The box has beautiful detailing all over it, even on the bottom of it. It measures about 4-1/4 inches wide at the widest point, 4-1/2 inches deep(the lid, which overhangs the box) and 3 inches high at the highest point, which is at the back of the box where the lid goes up. Dressed in a fine black dress. This photograph has enormous aesthetic appeal due to the beauty of its subject, and it is in very good condition. Her sleeves are ruffled at the wrist, and she's wearing magnificent jewelry: earrings, a long necklace, a brooch, bracelets, a chatelaine or watch fob and a ring. Most of the jewelry has been hand-tinted with a gilt paint. Her cheeks& lips have been hand tinted a light pink. The print itself is an ambrotype(a photograph on glass) And this specific one is a"ruby" ambrotype, printed on a deep ruby colored glass plate.
