This vintage Victorian jewelry box has been around for as long as I can remember. I don't recall it ever being in great shape, but now is in extremely rough condition- See attached photos. It dates from around 1900. The case appears to be solid oak- not plywood. The unique box metal liner is plated(tin? steel with a heavy. Hinged, cast steel(iron? combination"safe" door. The combination lock and latch d oes not work. But all or most of the parts are still there(in a bag) The combination lock dial and most of the lock parts are brass. The finely detailed ornamentation is nonferrous metal, some brass and some(probably zinc) die casting. It originally had a gold-colored, silk pleated upholstery on the inside of the wooden top, but it had virtually disintegrated, so I put it out of it's misery before taking the pictures. This is a large, uniquely designed Watch Fob created in 3 sections and adorned with a Griffon and a Dragon as well as other ornamental designs. There are 2 very pretty faceted stones that I cannot identify- they are a very pale amber/ champagne color. I believe the metal to be brass. Each of the creatures has a green stone for their eye. There is a mechanical clasp at the top which works perfectly- I've taken a picture in the open and closed positions. This is in very good condition- other than needing a cleaning. There is some minor loss on the four corners of the base but none anywhere else. Stamped on the base 17 Christofle with a makers mark in use from 1862-1935. Interesting African. Beaded, tribal what looks to be a small arm band. Leather has small hole on one side for the other piece of leather to fit through. One piece has become untied but has most of the orange beads attached. Beautiful bead work. This piece came from a collection of 1960's Masai tribal artifacts and jewelry. I can't say for certain if that what it is but the leather is aged as are the beads.
