It measures 3-7/8" x 2-3/4" The glass dish, possible leaded as it is very heavy, inserts into the gilded brass frame adorned with a"fleur de lis" on the front and ornate legs. This original Art Deco era piece is signed and numbered, APOLLO 4112/1, as indicated in the photo. The crystal box is a patterned glass and it fits into the brass filigree frame. Description For your consideration is this antique Victorian era small metal jewelry or ring box with pink silk lining. The maker is unknown as it is only marked with the number 1178 on the bottom. It is probably made of pot metal with an ormolu gold gilt finish. The Art Nouveau style floral and rococo design dates this piece to the late 1800's to early 1900's. The box measures 2 1/4" long. 1 3/4" wide and 2" high. It is very difficult to find these with all of the original silk lining. There are a few very small minor tears in the lining. The hinge works fine with a slight wiggle. There is some nice patina and light wear on the surface consistent with age. She collected hat pins(please see my other auctions! and this piece is from that collection. My great aunt was born in 1898 and died in 1981. I would guess that this piece is from anywhere between 1910 and 1930. The piece is round and there are rhinestones mounted around the outer circle. And blue stones of a dark sapphire color mounted around the inner circle, with one clear one. There are two"loops" mounted on the back side, perhaps for attaching to a hat or? Leeds for a pair of cufflinks, four dress buttons and two shirt studs Inside the box there is a removable cream vevet covered base. This pulls out to reveal a space in the base for the retaining rings for the dress buttons. The lid is lined with cream satin printed with the firm's details. The box is is reasonably good condition. There are some surface marks and scuffs to the leather and some indentations and foxing to the inside- in keeping with the age. The retainers for the cufflinks are both present. There is a slight warp on the box causing a little 2mm gape at the front when closed. The push button catch and hinge are in good order. Here is a great piece of Victorian"mourning" jewelry! It is a piece of genuine hair jewelry that was very popular in the second half of the 19th century. People mourned their relatives or sometimes animals who had passed away. And sometimes people honored those still living. A piece or locket of their loved one's hair could be worn close to their heart when woven into a piece of jewelry. Many people were artisans of this fine art of the period. Pieces are scarce because of their organic nature, and popularity goes up and down in the antiques market. This ring has a nifty 14 karat gold piece across the top. It could be engraved, but it hasn't been. Then, from both ends of the tube piece across the top, the braided hair comes around the back to form a circle for the ring. I believe that this is horsehair, as the pieces are ... morethicker, and I've seen a few similar ones before. The ring size is about 4.5. Its width is 4mm at the gold part, and a little less than 4mm around the sides. It is in excellent vintage condition. Again, these pieces are generally from the mid- to late-1800's.
