Antique Convex Glass Oval Frame with U.S. Navy Sailor Photo
Up for bidding is this Antique Convex Glass Oval Frame with U.S. Navy Sailor Photo. Photo is a hand tinted original image of a sailor using what is possibly a WWl navy uniform. Dating the picture is difficult since the Navy had different variations of uniforms issued throughout the years from the early 1900's to the early 1940's. The words"U.S. Navy" printed on the hat band could indicate early 40's yet the wide lid top could be an earlier issue date. Photo is missing a small piece on the top and has a crack across the bottom. Other small rips are visible from the front and there are old masking tape repairs on the back side of the print. None of these flaws really affect the wonderful look of this sailor's cross armed pose. Frame is made of wood with the original heavy coat of white paint. The frame's condition ... moreis pretty good yet shows its age with some joint cracking and crackling of the paint coat. Oval glass has a wonderful convex shape to it and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Please see the photos for further detail and condition views. We've made no attempt to repair anything on this picture. Only the top of the glass and frame has gotten a superficial cleaning to remove surface dust and grime. this is a mid 19th century silhouette reverse painting on convex glass. dimensions: 8 1/2" by 6" ps. A little back story.before photography only the rich could afford portraits-by professional painters. But almost anyone(despite the fact that George III and Catherine the Great were big fans) could afford a silhouette. Fashioned with just paper and scissors. Or coal black paint, the quickie silhouette could be executed by professional and amateur both and became the budget way to hang a loved one on the parlor wall. Nowadays, we think they're not just decorative, but soulful somehow, and attractively austere. This I believe. Is from England, European work can be more elegant as this one is.

Antique Convex Bubble Glass Picture Frame with Farm Couple
This antique convex glass photo is of an elderly farm couple. The coloring is still beautiful. With some greens, light pinks and enhanced black, gray and whites. This picture and frame are in original and good condition. The photos above show. The entire picture, a close up, the back, a close up of the portrait co. and the last picture shows some wear in the form of scratches at the top of the frame. This picture was made and sold by Chicago Portrait Co. Patent pending. It measures approximately 24"H x 16"W, the glass is convex and original. This auction is for an early 1900's Antique Oval Brass Bubble Glass Convex Frame with a Decorative American Bald Eagle Shield& Ribbon on the upper edge. The frame measures 21 5/8" tall by 14 1/8" wide- the image portion measures 18 7/8" by 13" The mirror has its original metal backing with all of the tab closures intact- the convex glass is in excellent condition- the finish on the brass has some age wear and scratches that would polish out if you wanted to shine it.

There are some surface cracks. But for it's age, that can be expected. But what is really nice is that pretty much the flourishes are all intact, though there are a couple cracks, but not missing pieces that we see. The frame is sturdy but not without some wear as some of the painted grain finish has worn off in places. It is backed with cardboard and picture is held in by small nails. Vtg Antique Reverse Painting Oval Convex Bubble Glass Picture The Danube
Up for auction is a picture of a castle. On the Danube River. I have seen similar pictures, come up for auction, and they have listed them as a reverse bubble glass painting. The frame is gold. There are a few chips and missing paint on the frame. There are a few spots of discoloration, the castle window, on the bridge and to the left of the castle. I am not sure if this is the original frame. Please note, there is not a piece of glass over the picture. The back of the picture is a thicker cardboard and has a hook and a wire hanger. I did display this picture in my house, but you may want to replace the hook or wire with something sturdier. The picture is approximately 21 1/2" in height and 10 3/4" at the widest point. LARGE Antique OVAL PICTURE FRAME Wood woodgraining CONVEX GLASS Portrait 14x20
A wonderful wood grained oval frame with gesso over wood and black outer edge. Glass and frame are both in wonderful condition with no breaks or damages found. I will cut cardboard for backing prior to shipping to keep glass safe. In inside dimensions of opening from back side are 13 3/4" by 19 3/4" with overall outer edge to edge dimensions at 15 3/4" by 21 3/4" making the frame itself about 1" wide and about 7/8" deep. I believe the convex glass is original having that nice old hue to it and frame has original old brass chain for hanging as well.
