IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. It is 24"L x 22"H x 17 1/2" D. The cloth part is gray. This trunk was used in the early 1900's for trips abroad. I can provide you with some of the history of its owner if you are interested. For instance. She was a wealthy single woman and drove an ambulance in WW11. It can hold 6 hats, and has a separate compartment for lady's accessories. The trunk is a nice size for using as a display/storage piece, which is why I removed the 6 hot holders. But I saved them all, and you can see them in the photos. One of them is missing its covering and shows the coarse material it was stuffed with. The one in the front contains its original hat pin, which looks like it could have been a murder weapon! Antique Louis Vuitton Top Hat Box / Half Trunk - RARE
I have not been able to find this Louis Vuitton hat box anywhere on the internet. And I have been looking for over 10 years. I am assuming it is quite rare. I am not a collector, but I believe this antique LV belongs in a collector's house or a museum, with other fine LV pieces. I know very little of its history, but what I do know is it came over from Europe with a woman who immigrated here(Through Ellis Island) and ended up in New Mexico. The box is lightweight, and made of a type of hardened leather, that is as hard as plastic, and thin. Very understated design for Louis Vuitton, with small brass clasps on each side, a strap across the top that has a place in the hardware for a small lock to be inserted into(lock not included) Please message me for any additional information or pictures. serial number reads 734486. And is embossed ... moreboth in the lid and in the inside of the box. LV label is embossed in the leather on the two opposite clasped sides of the box. The cities mentioned on the label, Paris, Nice, Lille, and London lead me to believe this piece is somewhere around the mid 1910's, but this is just an educated guess. The noticeable age wear is a 3 inch split in the lid(see picture) with a small hole resulting(looks easily repaired) Also, the bottom is warped, and the leather is a bit wavy. Goyard Hat Box Steamer Trunk The inside has four ribbons used for tying down hats before a voyage. Dimensions are 20" wide. 13.5" high, and 18" deep. I have not applied any cleaner to the stain on the top, which appears to be an adhesive from a shipping label that was left on too long. Slightly musty odor. But not very strong. One inch long shallow cut on the bottom. Edging all around feels like hard plastic. Not soft leather. The lock on the front is unlocked and has the number"34" with no key. This extremely rare and most sought after HAND PAINTED monogram canvas circa early 1900's is a special order steamer trunk from the legendary trunk maker Louis Vuitton and is simply amazing. There are obvious signs of wear that one would expect from a trunk that is over 100 years old but that just adds to the character and charm of the trunk. This can probably be removed by using some safe material if desired but I think that just adds to the history and looks just fine in my opinion. As described in condition case in good overall condition for being around 100 years old and is surprisingly complete. It even has the wooden hangers and removable suitcase. The top hat is a bit stained and has some wear and tear but is still a very cool piece. Note that the hat alone is probably worth about 150.00 While the top hat and trunk are not from the same estate I bought them close together at two separate sales. Here is a beautifully made Aux Etats Unis traveler trunk sold in Paris late 19th to early 20th century. These trunks were made to compete with the likes of Loius Vuitton. Hermes, etc. starting back in mid 1800s. This example had it's canvas stripped away long ago leaving the wood to age to the present patina. It has all original clasps. Hinges and the lock, but no key. This would have been known as a lady's trunk. Due to it's smaller size. Antique large ladies hat trunk. The trunk is in good unrestored original condition with some canvas damage and typical wear and signs of aging.This is a"slatless" style. Which means it has no exterior wooden slats.It has pressed fiber{faux leather} edge bindings attached with shot head tacks. Scalloped shaper fiber binding material is also down the center of the top and front. The wood is covered by a heavy canvas which is unique in that the canvas has a floral and vine pattern printed or embossed onto the surface. Their is a front center lock which is solid brass and marked"Eagle Lock Co. Terryville, Ct. The original key is included in the auction. There are steel latches on the front of the trunk as well as the sides because the lower portion of the front folds down, with three hinges on the front. This is a seldom found ... morefeature on these trunks. The leather handles are missing and the steel handle holders are present. The interior has the original striped fabric lining. The lift out tray is present as well as the drop down tray that folds up into the lid. The trunks bottom is covered with sheet iron, with three wood slats and is in good condition with the four original metal rollers. The trunk was made 1906 and 1925. ANTIQUE 1920's ROUND CASE LUGGAGE HAT BOX TRUNK LEATHER TRIM TRAVEL STICKERS
An antique 1920's round black case/ luggage/ hat box/ trunk with leather trim and quite a few old travel stickers. It measures approximately 20" in diameter with one flat side so it can sit up without a problem X 9 3/4" high. There are 2 small brass hinges on the lid that hold it to the base of the case and there are 2 ribbons that serve as stays when the case is opened so the lid won't flop backwards when it's opened. It would seem that the lady who owned this hat case was a woman of'means' when you look at all the places it has been. And she most likely owned several others as well as the one you see here. One of the stickers on the case indicate the woman's name was Amelia Gebhard traveled in Cabin#11 on the Norddeutscher Lloyd(North German Lloyd) shipping line from Bremen to New York on 8-24-1926. Some ... moreof the stickers are the Hotel Post Reichspost in Heidelberg. Germany- the Carlton Hotel Tivoli in Lucerne, Switzerland- and the Hotel Milan in Stresa, Italy. That's pretty much all I was able to identify but you may be more successful. Beautiful Louis Vuitton Trunk Very nice trunk. Extremely rare size. It comes with both the original tray and divider for shoes. Extremely rare to have both! The brass hardware is all intact. The key also included included! The monogram is is good condition for a vintage trunk except from the wear that is pictured. Does show some marks from use as you can see in the photos. The brass shows some signs of wear such as tarnish. Rubbing and a few dents. The interior is in nice shape. The lid stays up by itself. The interior tray is very rare to have intact with the divider. The straps to the tray are all in place and free of tears snags. The serial number reads 805705. The monogram painting was done by Louis Vuitton and reads T.P.W.
