THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. It is a beautiful solid wood chest that is very sturdy and has six dovetail drawers. Children can jump on this chest and it is not going anywhere. We refinished the chest with a white patina that allows the wood grain to show through. The chest is in very good condition. There is wear on the back of the chest. The thin wood on the back of the piece has cracked in several places. This has no effect on the structural soundness of the chest. The chest is finished off with 12 unique vintage mid-century brass disc knobs. The chest is 46 3/4” tall by 32” wide by 18” deep. The color of the chest alone screams musket balls and outhouses. Such a simple peice foe a simpler time The hardware had been changed to a model produced in 1958 to be specific(you can see where the original hardware holes were) but I'm posative that the chest itself gtoes back at least another 150 years. The exterior is actually in excellent shape aside from one leg that was professionally repaird. The finish has a beautiful patina and it is consistant all over with a deep rivh nateral color. The interior has been maintained, the top left drawer on the back panel has been replaced. While the originaL lock on the top left drawer remains all the other ... morelocks have since been removed with the cavity being filled when needed the lock on. I guess the one lock was left just for a place to keep valuables. while either the others wereeither remeved becauae they were constantly being locked accidentlly. Or more likely the lockes were taken to be used for another piece. So the chest isnt perfect, but its almost 200 years old. and quite frankly at's all part of it's charicftor and charm. Vintage 60's Cherry 3 drawer chest dresser low boy real wood no laminate
Up for auction is a beautiful cedar chest of drawers with 3 drawers. The outside appears to be cherry the inside of the drawers appears to be cedar. But I'm not sure. Is made in the sixty's with old world craftsmanship like dovetail joints. The actual drawer pulls have little wood accents as well. It is 36 inches wide, 23 inches high, and,it is 18inches deep.each drawer is 6 inches high.it has no legs and sits directly on the floor. The top drawer works perfectly the bottom two drawers, you just have to make sure you pull them out evenly, you need to be pulled out and pushed back in evenly but they work great otherwise as long as you pull from the middle of the handle. You don't want to push them from the left or right side just directly from the middle and they will open and close very easily. As for other defects, the top has ... morea significant number of little scratches, you could see in some photos to handle pulls have a few minor scratches and there's some delamination in the right rear of the wood on the right side. This is not a reproduction. This is an original gorgeous Antique chest of drawers and is available for pick up only unless you are willing to arrange and pay for crating and shipping. The measurements are 18.5”Deep x 33.25”Wide x 46”High. As you can see from the pictures this is a handsome chest. Crafted from solid hardwoods and is quite old, and very heavy. The chest has been re-finished in an antique Turquoise or Aqua finish. Finally there are a total of 6 drawers with original hardware. I just came back from an international furniture show where they had reproductions of this style furniture where they were asking $800 to $1600 wholesale prices.
