The base is a cast iron pedestal from a metal working lathe from 1942. The door on the front opens. The original layers of paint are still there with a different shade showing thru in various spot from many years of use. The cast iron has been cleaned and lightly waxed to bring out its full character. The top is from a retired Patternmakers shop and was turned on a large wood lathe many years ago. It was a blank intended to be shaped into a pattern to make a mold to be poured in metal but was never used. It is built up from many layers of dense plywood with a top layer of fir in a pie wedge design for stability. Holes have been plugged. It had no top when I got it. The wood is oak and the base and hardware is cast iron. I have the steel clips to attach the top. At some point there was another circular support bar, on the far side. The table base is in original condition with no breaks to the legs or decorative connecting piece. The stools swivel as they should and are in good working condition. The maple stool tops are original and will probably need to be reglued at the seams. The base has surface rust and it will be up to the buyer to refinish as they choose. I bought this drafting table from a individual who inheriated it from his grandfather who intern recieved it from a dayton Ohio firm when he retired in the early 60's so the story goes. The drafting table does not show any lableing regarding the manufacture but it is clearly an antique. The diminsions: Table Top 60" Long x 36" Wide x 1" Thick. When cranked all the way down with the table top flat it sit approximately 35" above the floor. When cranked all the way up with the table top flat it sit approximately 47" above the floor. To raise and lower the drafting you release the pressure by turning a spicket type handle see picture number 9. Then you turn the wheel see picture 9 and then 11 for close up. Once you have the drafting table at the desired ... moreheight you turn the spicket clockwise to apply pressure to the mechanism to secure the desired height. The drafting table angles approximately 80 degrees in both directions. Again you use a spicket type handel see picture 10 turning counterclockwise which releases the pressure on the drafting table top mechinism then you push or lift the drafting table top to the angle you want and then you turn the spicket handle clockwise to to apply pressure to secure the angle of the drafting table top. The heavy Rock Maple slab top is constructed using bolted angle irons. The table is in very good vintage condition with a few minor issues: One of the legs has a heavy weld showing and also has broken tab at the foot. The top has minor checking and a visible crack is present by one of the corners. However it is still held together tightly, thanks to the bolted angle iron construction technique. Vintage Cast Iron Pedestal Tripod Tilt Top Base Industrial - Excellent Condition
Up for sale is a beautiful vintage cast iron tripod tilting pedestal table base. The cast iron base was in remarkably good condition considering it's age and as best I can tell still has the original finish. Usually these are totally rusted out and the paint missing. A good wash revealed a nice green patina. There is no maker mark or manufacturer name on it. But it has to be old as they haven't made anything like this in years with a cast iron base. When fully extended it is about 40" or so inches tall. The 3 tripod legs are also about 2 feet apart all the way around to give you an idea of size. I am including the 2 metal table top edges that you can put on a future top should you choose. That was the style when this was made. And it is a very nice look. VINTAGE CAST IRON & MAPLE INDUSTRIAL- MACHINE AGE-STEAMPUNK TABLE
HELLO BIDDERS- You are bidding on an A RE-PURPOSED 1930'S DEMMING CAST IRON BASE WITH A MAPLE WORK BENCH TOP. This is a beautiful piece of industrial furniture that would make a great desk. Dining table or other table. The base is a Demming cast iron base from the 1930's. The base came from a factory near Chattanooga.TN that made uniforms for business and military. It was an original piece in the building I found it in. The beautiful Maple top I found in an industrial salvage plant in Dalton. GA. The top was from the late 1940's. I pressure washed and removed most of the old paint from the table top and sanded it down to a 180 grit. I then coated the top with three layers of poly sanding in between coats. The green 57 Chevy green paint looks incredible against the distressed Maple wood. The table top side was the bottom and the ... morenon-paint side was the working top side. You can use either side so both are pictured for you to choose. They both look incredible. The table top has scars and metal that I ground down flush with the Maple. I sandblasted the base and polished it down to bare metal and shot it with four coats of lacquer giving it an excellent seal. The wheels have also been polished out and can be used or easily removed. The table top measures 60" x 22" and is apx. 28" tall with the wheels on. A simple peg in the wheel hole will raise it an inch or two if needed. It is an excellent height for a desk or dining table. Everything works well and the condition is good with minor imperfections due to age and wear with minor oxidation and usage marks in the wood. The top of the work table has shallow scratches. Other than that, this piece is in good condition and moves freely to tilt. There are two spots on the base that seem to be where a plate or tag of some sort was attached by the manufacturer. One is circular like that used by Frederick Post company, the other is rectangular(please see photos) however I cannot find anywhere indicating the manufacturer, although the style is similar to Post tables. This is an old factory table or work bench salvaged from a Chicago machine shop c1930. It was manufactured by Pollard Bros. Chicago, IL. The yellow pine top and lower shelf have been sanded and clear coated in a matte finish. The frame is constructed of cast angle iron in a time worn grey and blue patina and the legs have welded floor plates and casters for added stability and ease of movement. Very heavy and sturdy. This table measures 61"w x 28 1/2"d x 40 1/4"h. The clearance between the lower shelf and top is 24 ½” so would be a great spot to hang pots and pans etc. The spacious lower shelf doubles as a foot rest and is 14” from the floor. Vintage Industrial 6' Dining Kitchen work Table Cast Iron Legs
Custom made heavy duty vintage industrial dining or work table. Measures 72" long. 36" wide and 30" tall. Table top is old growth Oak tongue and groove 1.4" thick, it was reclaimed from a warehouse cart in a shoe factory. The Oak is incredibly dense and heavy, if you tried to drive a nail into in the nail would just bend. The table top has been sanded, but no more than necessary, still shows great character with marks and dings from factory use. I put three coats of polyurethane on the Oak for long lasting protection. The cast iron legs are also from early 20th century and were made by Chicago Hardware Foundry, the legs weigh about 35 lbs each.
