Vintage/Antique Mahogany Inlaid Wood Tilt-top Table
I am selling a beautiful mahogany(what we think is mahogany) tilt-top table that has been in my family for many years. I am not sure of it's exact age. Or if it is an original or reproduction. It is well-made, no cracks or nicks, nor signs of previous repairs. There are signs of normal wear and tear in the finish, which I have tried to show in the pictures. It has an amazing in-laid wood design, and is very structurally sound. It measures 24.75 inches in diameter and 41 inches tall. Payment is due within 24 hours of auction close. From my aunt's estate is a beautiful Mahogany leather top coffee table with original pulls! Looks to have an italian style to it. Think there were brass cups with wheels attached that fit on the legs. But do not have them. Note the pretty inlaid on the side of the table. Have not attempted to clean it because I am no expert on this type of furniture. INFORMATION I HAVE IS BASED ON SEARCHING THORUGH OTHER EBAY AUCTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. Circa 1930's to 1940's and made of hardwood with a mahogany stain. Finish is still in pretty nice condition and the leather is also but does show crackling but not cracked through it. A Large early 20th Century Table. Opens to 14 ft, seats 20. Made of solid mahogany. With six(6) leaves, nicely inlaid with a triple band of rosewood& satinwood on the top, with Hepplewhite legs heavily inlaid to match the top& apron, terminating in spade shaped feet. Closes to a 72" round table. The oval shape of the table top. The table top banding, the apron, the legs, the spade shaped feet, and the inlay on all of this, is nearly identical to the original Titanic Captains Dining Table. The original table d esigned by cabinetmaker Gilbert Logan at Harland& Wolff’s workshop in Belfast. Ireland, was intended for the private quarters of the Titanic’s captain, Edward John Smith. This original Titanic Captains Table is in the Harland& Wolff Collection, in Belfast. Due to a late delivery the original Captains Table never ... moremade it on board. See below Titanic Table Story. The original table made by Gilbert Logan. Circa 1912 was designed to be block mounted raised by 6-8 inches and fixed to a base to prevent movement at sea. This piece of furniture was commissioned, alongside a sideboard, for the White Star Liner R.M.S. Titanic for use in the private quarters of the Captain and Master, Captain Edward John Smith. It was intended that these pieces would be finished and installed in time for the vessel’s maiden voyage departing from Southampton on Wednesday 10 April 1912. Unfortunately, at the time, the furniture was not quite ready, and the ship left for Southampton, bound for Cherbourg, Cork and then New York, without these items on board. In a matter of days the furniture became available, and was shipped over to Southampton to await the first homecoming of Titanic later in the month. On passage from Cork to New York the Titanic struck an iceberg and slipped beneath the surface and sank. In the aftermath of the tragedy. It is a beautiful little coffee table that came into the shop with a shoddy finish and instead of trying to clean it up and sell it. Like most people do, we take pride in our products. So we went right through this having it sanded, stained a dark reddish brown mahogany color and multiple coats of hand rubbed satin sheen lacquer. It is in beautiful condition. It has four carved corners on the multi-molded shapely top. The top has been double banded on the top with a maple and mahogany inlaid that has a saw tooth design and has a beautiful flame mahogany center. It sits on a ball and claw base with carved cabriole legs and has two legs on each column that are joined together with a solid mahogany turn spindle cross stretcher. The overall size is 37 inches long from carving to carving, 20 inches deep, 18 inches high to the table top and 20 inches high to the carved corner molded top. It is all set to go into the home and it doesn't get any nicer than this. It will cost $129.00 to have this coffee table shipped with in our normal shipping area. Antique Mahogany Game Table Corner Cups with Lids Inlaid Top Iron Cross Bar Legs
I am offering for auction today a Small Antique Mahogany Game Table with Corner Cups with Lids. An Inlaid Wood Top, with a Criss Cross Decorative Iron Leg Support, and a Swing Out Drawer on one side for Cards or Game Pieces. It measures 31 inches square and is 30 inches tall. The corner cups are 2 inches across and the lids are 2 1/2 inches across with a wood knob in the center. I am not a furniture dealer and do not know the origin or style of this table. It may have been a ladies game table due to the size. I do not know what kind of game was played on this table or what the corner cups were for as they are very shallow. I was told by an antique dealer that it was probably from the Jane Eyre era. I was using it for a dining room table in my tiny apartment, but no longer have need for that. Antique Mahogany Card Table made by"Casltewood" in Louisville. Kentucky. Measures 30" x 30" and is 26 3/4" in height. There is wear to the corners and wood is chipped, but it is very solid wooden legged table. Made out of Mahogany and the top is inlaid. Each leg has a push button to fold each leg back in, 3 of the buttons stick out when legs are down but one button is flush with the outer edge. All original patina and finish flows throughout the entirety of this piece. It was made or sold by Kurtz Bro Inc. Bethlehem PA. A wonderful rounded oval shaped beveled edge glass removable tray top flows down to inspired legs and base. The continuous unbroken lines of this piece just makes it that much more appealing to the eye. The top has inlaid flowers It measures 18 7/8" tall to the tray. 26 1/2" wide, and 20 1/4" deep.
