The brackets measure 9 1/2" tall x 7 1/2 across the top. They have an ornate curl on the end where the shelf would rest. I would say a 6" deep shelf would be placed in the area. Each side of the shelf brackets have 4 holes for mounting to the wall and 4 holes to mount the wood shelf you provide. These were commonly used at the turn of the century and seen in Grocery Stores. Vintage cast iron shelf brackets. 8 pieces. These mount to a pipe or wooden pole(vertical element) You then could use wooden shelves with some pieces of half round glued to the bottom to keep them in place. You could run a piece of pipe or round wood in the two depressions and use glass on top of that for the shelves. Or these could be used in a green house to hold water pipes with spray heads to water the beds of plants under them. They stick out 11 1/2 inches from the pipe. The two half moon cut outs are 7 inches center to center. they are 4 1/2 inches tall. Or use them to hang plants. Glad to answer any questions about this item.

Here is an amazing lot of 4 beautifully ornate cast iron shelf brackets that are each two pieces- they are reversible so you can fit them into the wall brackets both ways. I sell a lot of this kind of stuff and this lot of stuff is the best I have ever had. They and an 1886 patent date. The"smaller" still large) brackets are 16" x 8" and the larger brackets are 21" x 9" and the vertical pieces that screw to the wall are 24" long. they have multiple notches so you can adjust the shelf up and down- really great. It gets even better if you like provenance- these were screwed to a wall of a hardware store in the 1890s and just unscrewed from the same building this week. They are japanned black and then someone has painted gold over them. This look is actually pretty cool- mostly gold with black flecks showing ... morethrough. The look great as is or you could get them back to black with a little elbow grease. Or just repaint them the color you like. They are marked"A. W. Koch. These two large brackets supported a shelf on top and held a dowel on the bottom, presumably as a towel holder. They were found recently at a local estate auction. I think they are quite old. And could possibly have been used on a train. They measure 15-3/4" tall x almost 4" wide. The depth with the top shelf support is 9" and the depth of the smaller dowel holder is 6-1/4" There is an extra hole near the base of the dowel holder. So it might have held something else as well. Large Antique Cast Iron Shelf Mantel Brackets, 18x16 in, vintage old industrial
This is a beautiful pair of old shelf brackets. These antique brackets are made of cast iron. They are very large. At 17 7/8 inches by 15 7/8 inches by 1 7/16 inches. They have 3 mounting holes on the 15 7/8 in side and one at the tip of the 17 7/8 in side. Some of the black finish has worn off, and there is light rust where the finish is missing. This pair is decorative without being too fussy. They would add a lot of visual interest to any room.
