I really don't know what this is. It seems to be hand forged. The top piece with the leaves attached is a curved 2 feet wide. It has two brackets on each end to attach to a wall. And 6 iron leaves attached. Two of the hanging Hooks are 19 1/2" and 2 are 25" long. They are easily changed to have them in what ever order you want. Each hook has cross bars at the ends I really would appreciate it if anyone knows exactly what this is to be used for. The estate I bought this from told me they were curtain rods. Antique Vtg. 50" Wrought Iron Sign Hanging Bracket Well Made back in 1940's-50's
Tonight5's Auction is for an Antique Vintage Wrought Iron 50 inch Sign Hanging Bracket that was made I believe by a welder either for himself or for somebody that had hired him to make one for them. I had a wooden store sign made back around 1974 and needed a bracket for it and got the bracket from the sign maker who happened to have this one. For some reason. I don't remember, I ended up using some other bracket and I kept this one figuring that someday I would find a use for it, but it never happened. I've always kept it under cover and I came across it the other day getting some wood out of my storage building which is attached to my shop. It's about 49 to 50 inches long and on the higher end which attaches to a building or whatever you're going to attach it to it's about 22 1\2 inches high. The 2 swivel bolts where ... morethe sign is attached are about 28 inches from center to center. The 28 inches doesn't restrict that the sign has to line up exactly on 28 inches, just letting you know this particular distance. The gray finish on it right now is metal primer. The 2 bolts where the original sign was attached had a red& white metal sign hanging from at one particular point in time, because when they took it off, they cut it off and there is a piece of thin metal on both bolts that has red& white on it, probably a nice Esso or Mobil sign etc. that would be worth quite a bit these days. The sign was well made being welded and bolted both at critical points and everything is still nice and tight as the day it was made. It most likely was made back in the 1940's- 50's for a gas sign when so many of the brands were expanding their stations. This old collapsible accordion style towel/hat/coat rack is great because it is so versatile. It is over 3 lbs. of what appears to be hand forged iron and is well made and solid enough to hold anything you would want to hang on it and adjustable to fit in many spaces. Pic#1 is about 22" X 12" and pic#2 about 27" X 10" When collapsed(pic#3) it measures about 15" X 3 3/4" X 2 1/2" It has been painted. But there is some minimal corrosion, which could be easily touched-up. All the"pins" for expansion work freely and are solid. This is a beautiful set of 5 hand-forged. Wrought iron hooks. Early, to mid 1800's. They are inverted, or inclined L-shaped. All 5 are in great condition, with virtually no rust and they have the aged, pitted patina that comes with antique forged iron. 4 of these are approximately 8" to 9" long, with one topping out at 12" long. All the hooks have a bottom leg that is 4" long. They all have 2 mounting holes. 2 of the hooks have a top bend to them. To mount over a beam. 3 of them have the mark of W. M. Wood and the other 2 are marked"S Plow" They come from a barn in Ashby, Massachusetts. Nice, historical pieces. Put them to use on a beam or mantle, or just display them as Colonial beauties. Originally our hat pin tops came from a closed ware house auction which had specialized in jewelry, gems, stones& craft fittings. Boxes of damaged jewelry, rhinestones, and sterling scrap& metal rods. These vintage items have been fitted together to re-create Antique Victorian Style Hat Pins. We also use vintage glass beads and genuine semi precious stones. Materials range from glass, metal, Bakelite, Sterling, celluloid early plastic and sometimes a mixture. Many hat pins are one of a kind. They can be displayed in hat pin holders, old hats, and vintage clothing. Inexpensive and decorative, but can be used for their original purpose- to keep a hat in place. To do this do ... morenot use the top portion but hold the rod and weave through the hat in the back or on top on the hat. CAUTION when you receive and open the package as pin ends are sharp. This is a nice old large wrought iron hook measuring 10.25 inches top to bottom.The back is shaped and is 1.25 inches at its widest.Tapers to a point at the top.At the front the hook comes out 5.25 inches.I think this hook was probably used in a barn or old cottage.It was probably hammered into a beam[ evidence at the base where it has been hammered]The hook is in reasonable order with pitting and wear commensurate with age and use[ top of point turned in a touch]It probably dates to the late 1800s. Antique Two Wrought Iron Shutter Stays Holdbacks
These two rare handmade by blacksmith shutter dogs stays holdbacks where given to me in 1990 when I was building an authentic New England saltbox to use on my house by a friend whose father had collected them. The father lived in Indiana but I do not know if that is where they originally came. My understanding is that these type were used in brick. Wood or stone to hold back the shutters and are from the mid to late 1800s. These have a beautiful design on the medallion which almost looks patriotic and they have their original black paint with some chips in the paint to authenticate their originality. They were never used on my house, but kept by me. Each is in two pieces, measuring the longest piece with the sharp point is 6" Measuring the top of the medallion to the base is 4"
