Such old corbels in this design are a rare find. As these will hold a tapestry or curtain rod or you can weave a drape through the circular opening. You can also set a shelf on top. Former owner states that the corbels are originally from France. Circa 1900. They are rendered from wood and have remnants of old paint showing under the old gold paint on top. Some wear commensurate with age. A little chipping, rubs, etc. and if you look closely you can see small areas of little chips having been repaired in a couple places, there are some cracks. Splits, etc. Please see images-both are structurally sound. All the imperfections only add charm and authenticity. The plywood backs with hooks are a later addition for hanging easily on the wall. These lightening rods and cable were removed from a barn in northeast Ohio. The cable is about 88 ft long and has an approximate 5 ft long leg connected to it via a factory"Y' splice. The splice can be easily removed or moved to a different location. The rods are copper(I believe) and are connected to the cable via a clamp attached to the rod. The rod and rod holder can be positioned anywhere along the cable. I included a picture of the barn which the rods and cable were taken from. Up here for auction 4 great deco curtain rods with the tie backs. One has an issue. The bracket that holder the curtain back needs to be either welded or peened. One of the curtain rods tip on the end is broken and missing a piece and another tip a small piece is missing. Not as noticeable. Could use some paint on the rods them self a little scratched. Lot of 8 Vtg Drapery Curtain Rods Cast Iron Brackets Holders~Black and Gold
This is a lot of 8 vintage curtain rod holders. I'm not sure of the age. But they were purchased with a lot of vintage swing arm curtain rods, so they must have age. They are made of a heavy black metal with gold highlights. It is the original finish. They measure 6" tall and 5" out from the wall. The rod would fit in an area that is 3" from the wall. It measures so that it would hold a rod up to 1" with a screw to hold the rod in place. There is some speckling on the top of the brackets from when they painted the room, but not heavy. I spent 30 years as a Special Machine Builder and Machinist. I retired from the tooling trade over 20 years ago so the time has come to pass along my precision tools and tooling to someone who has a use for them. For sale is my 30 year collection of(5) miscellaneous indicators(2) magnetic indicator bases with permanent magnets- very strong(3) indicator holder rods. Two of them can be used for holding the Federal and the Randall- Stickney indicators. The swooping 90 degree rod I used for zeroing in a Bridgeport table or sweeping in large angle plate. Also, included are two Starrett misc. holders. All of the indicators have good return springs, smooth action and are in good condition for their age. All crystals are good. No large scratches or cracks. The travel-increments and make are all shown in the photos along with the condition. The old ... morebox is original to the Starrett Indicator, but has seen better days.
