This nice cast iron book scraper came from an estate auction here in eastern Connecticut* Marked/stamped on the front of the scraper is: E&T C. 617. We could find no information on the E&T Company* The gate mark(the line on the bottom from where the hot iron entered the casting) dates it to the late 1800's. The pan measures 10-3/4" long and 8-1/4" wide at the top. The top of the pan is 2" high. The scraper measures 6" high to the top of the horns and can accomodate a boot up to 4" wide* The holes in the bottom of the pan which would allow it to be securely fastened to the step are on 6-5/8" centers. The scraper is in excellent condition and with a little more cleaning(or not) it's ready to use or display. There is NO RESERVE! There is NO HANDLING CHARGE! J W Fiske Signed Cast Iron Metal Stable Barn Tack Saddle Bracket Horse Saddle
I was advised that these are old barn/ stable brackets for holding a saddle. This is a lot of three- RARE LOT- ALL ORIGINAL- J. W. Fiske N.Y.cast iron. Possibly saddle brackets with their original grain painted wood. The lower area may be for hanging a bridal or other tack/ horse related leather. The fancy metal bracket back is 14 3/4 inches by about 3 1/2 at its widest point and resembles the shape of some primitive hinge shapes. Each cast iron bracket is cast signed J.W. Fiske N.Y. and on the opposite side 327. The wood on the top for the saddle is 20 1/4 inches on 2 of the holders and 20 1/2 inches on one. The top piece of wood is triangle shaped. The round bottom wood is 4 1/4 inches long and about 2 3/4 inches wide, Little round fancy end is intact on each. Appears to be the original coat of black paint over a red base on the metal. ... morePossible they were repainted but I do not think so. The wood is all grain painted and is clearly original. There are some signs of age and use but they are in very nice condition. J. W. Fiske is famous for the manufacture of weathervane and garden cast urns, stable and barn cast iron pieces. This is a rare find. Antique set of attached theater chairs. Circa 1920's-30's. Cast iron frame. Wood and vinyl upholstery. There are markings on the frame(see photo) All appears to be original. The condition is good considering the age. Wear gives this set a nice character. This set is very heavy and it will take 2 people to move. This chairs came with my 1904 built house when I bought it. This iron tea kettle was used to boil and keep water hot all day. Tea was not made in the pot. But in another vessel and it was refilled constantly. It has a textured background pattern around the bulk of the body with a chrysanthemum and dragonfly and a solid iron pine cone finial. It is 10.75" high to the top on the handle and approx. 6" in diameter. There is some oxidation on the inside, which should be scrubbed out providing many more years of hot water! c1850 Large Brass & Iron Adjustable Sector Signed Charles Bush Inventor
For auction here is a mid-19th century. Hand made brass and iron sector which measures 12 3/4" long when folded closed. Each arm of the device has a spring-loaded slide which can be adjusted up an down the arms. Each slide has a sharp iron point. There are many various number scales which presumeably are for making calculations. I do not know specifically if this is an instrument for navigation or mathematical calculation. It is stamped with the name"Charles Bush Inventor" Charles G. Bush(1825-1900) I found the following information about him on line: Charles Bush is somewhat of an enigma. Untrained in any of the physical sciences. He arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1847 from Culberg, Prussia, where he was born in 1825. He had worked in his father's hemp manufacturing business and proceeded to establish a successful ... morerope business in Plymouth. In later years, after moving to Boston, he pursued interests in microscopes, telescopes, astronomy, and photography, at all of which he excelled. It was in the early 1870s that he began developing kaleidoscopes. Bush manufactured his parlor kaleidoscopes by the thousands and they were recognized as extraordinary even then. These instruments had a barrel of black hardboard with a spoked brass wheel rotating an object cell, mounted on a turned wooden stand. I purchased this sector many years ago at our local flea market from a woman who was selling her late husband's collection of tools and instruments. She told me he had felt that it was something special and that this was one of his most highly prized items. 18th 19th C Colonial Antique Wrought Iron Scissors Shears Signed
10" Long 3 1/4" Wide An almost identical example can be seen referenced on page 309 of George Nuemann's book"Early American Antique Country Furnishings" fig 1364) Nice example of a high quality pair of blacksmith made shears likely dating circa 1750-1780. Scissor shears such as this were used for a variety of functions such as to cut various articles of cloth. But also could have been used in leather work as well. As you can see they were expertly crafted with the smith working pieces of straight iron into large finger loops. Note the early center rivet and thick blades. Some slight pitting from age. Antique Elephant Mechanical 3 Star Cast Iron Bank - 1884 - Signed
For sale is an 1884 cast iron mechanical elephant bank with a blanket on his back and 3 stars on the blanket. This mechanical bank measures 9" long. 5" tall and about 2.5" wide. The elephant's trunk has a groove to hold the coin, and when you push the tail, the trunk deposits the coin into the bank. This is a rare find for collectors. This bank was advertised in the 1884 winter catalog of the Elrich Brothers. A screw holds the two sides of the elephant bank together and you unscrew it to remove the coins from the bank. Here is another of my vintage Japanese KOZUKA(small samurai craft blades) made by the Japanese a master swordsmith in the tradition of the samurai sword with hand forged laminated high carbon steel that holds an edge like no other in the world. In the last picture you can actually see the lamination line between the hagane(high carbon cutting edge) and the forged iron base. This vintage blade is tightly wraped in a conbination handle made of thick bamboo and a bamboo weave. It show slight signs of use including a warm aged patina on the bamboo and some minor spots of oxidation on the blade but mostly under the bamboo wrap. Under the bamboo handle there is a makers name which remains unknown. The blade itself remains in fine conditon. Still razor sharp with a generation of life for its next master.
