These are getting increasingly hard to find in this condition, when you consider only a few Victorian homes had 2 or 3 of these you then can understand why. Although these were originally used as handrail brackets they also can be used as a unique and interesting small shelf brackets. A friend of mine used ones similar to these for that in her bathroom and I must say they looked good. The circular attachment base is about 2 ¼” diameter and they would extend from the wall about 3 ¼” I also have a pair like these listed that don’t extend out quite as much. Circ. late 1800s– 1920s. This item is a great figural clenched hand used to hold a hand rail or maybe even a foot rail for a bar front and was made by the Soudan Specialty Manufacturing Company. Milwaukee, Wisconsin WI from the early 1900's. This item measures approx. 5 1/2 inches long in size and the hand would hold a 2 3/8 inch round hand rail. 2 Antique/Vintage Ornate Cast Iron? Victorian? Hand Rail Brackets Marked 3 1/2
Here is a set of 2 ornate old hand rail brackets. They have the look and feel of cast iron; however. Because I'm not an expert, I cannot guarantee what they're made of. They both have surface rust and will get your hands dirty when you touch them. Both are marked"3 1/2" on the part that holds the rail. This is much clearer on one versus the other. The"3 1/2" is likely a reference to their size as the bases are 3 1/2 inches long. Both have the same ornate design. They have some wear as well as rust. Please see the photos for complete details of their condition. I don't have the parts that secure the rail to the brackets.

This rustic hook would also work well for a bath robe. The hook is in"as found" condition with some of its original white wash paint remaining. The hook was from a 1700's house. Likely the basemnet or summer kitchen. It is nicely aged and has all the dents and scratches from its storied life. The right end was cut off. It was splintered from a longer board. I matched the angle to the left end and aged it and raised the grain. This is a set of 4 old handrail brackets for supporting a stairway railing. These 4 antique brackets are made of cast iron. The round mounting plate is 2 3/16 inch in diameter. The other plate is 1 9/16 inches by 11/16 inch. The overall length is 3 1/2 inches. Most of the original copper flashed finish has worn off. There are a few spots of old paint on the round mounting plates.
