Early Primitive Antique Folk Hand Carved Wood Swivel Wall Hook Forged Iron AAFA
Early Primitive Antique Folk Hand Carved Wood Swivel Wall Hook Forged Iron AAFA So. I went to the auction of a lifetime this past weekend. A storage barn of an antiques dealer that passed about 10 years ago. She specialized in early primitives and American folk art and boy-oh-boy you do not want to miss this week. I took photos of the items that I bought for one full day, and still am not finished– but decided to go ahead and list what I have– enjoy! Love this one. It's very old. It's hand made, and I really don't think that my photos do it justice. It is a hand made wood wall hook with hand carved details on the backplate as well as the end of the hook. The piece is two pieces of solid wood that I believe are oak- it's hard to tell for sure because the patina is so dark, so please look at the grain in my photos and see what ... moreyou think. The two are attached with an iron U shaped bracket, and there is a pin on either side of the back side of the hook to allow it to swivel. When you look really closely, you can see that the hardware is forged iron- U bracket and pins- this one was totally hand made, and it's quite old. The backplate has two small holes for mounting on the wall and it measures 5 3/3" tall by 7/8" wide. The piece is 13 1/2" long from the back of the backplate to the very front of the hook and at the body, the hook is 5/8" by 5/8" and is 5/8" by 1" tall at the end. Check out how there's a"hook" that is carved into the end of the arm- an angled up part to keep your items well secure on the arm. It weighs just over 1/4 lb all together and is in excellent solid and sturdy condition- totally usable and strong. The swivel action works great and the piece is surprisinly strong for it's age and inteneded use. There's minor finish wear to spots all over- most seen at the backplate around where the screws used to be. Antique RARE hand carved redwood drapery brackets from early 1900's custom home
HEAR YE. HEAR YE! WE ARE NOW EMPTYING THE BARN* Architectural salvage 1917 Pasadena CA ANTIQUE drapery rod brackets/6” acorn finials rings– redwood? I’ve gone through most of the stuff from the attic so it is time to move on to the boxes in the barn… Got the ladder out and at the VERY top of the wall shelf found 13(12” see photos) curtain/drapery rod brackets. 7 acorn/pineapple(large- 6” finials, and 9(2” with 3(3.5” wood curtain rings. If you examine the pictures, you will see a close-up of an additional broken ring that makes me think these are all redwood. Some of the rings are still attached to material. These were not covered and were extremely dusty– blew them off with compressor air but they need to be cleaned up a bit before you can repaint them. Back in the early days. California home builders(especially high end in the San Marino/Pasadena ... morearea) used redwood since the hungry termites passed it up for softer wood. Because of the excellent vintage– antique– condition of these. It certainly makes sense that they are all redwood(but I am not a wood officinal) If you have a project, or six windows that are just SREAMING for a makeover with the real deal, here is your chance. If you plan on building a home in the future, don’t pass these by– they don’t make these like this anymore– bid away! NOTE: If there is a ruler or a random coin/dollar bill in these pictures it is for scale and not part of the package. J Here is my disclaimer. These items are not new. They are old. Probably wrapped in acidic paper along the way, put away with the intention of opening again in a few weeks, which turned into a few months, then a few years, and now more than a few DECADES.
