Mixed Lot of 6 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Dogs In Clamshell Pattern As Found
Here are six cast iron shutter dogs from the late 1800s. They are in the clamshell pattern are just as found removed from a old house and have old green paint and a weathered exterior. Three have a projection of 3 1/4" from the wall surface and of the three there is one left& right pair plus one right handed. Two have a projection of 2 3/4" and are a matched left& right hand set. The one remaining of the six has a projection of 2" and is right handed. The stems are fluted and the bases measure 2 1/4" square and each require four#10 screws as fasteners. The shells are about2" in diameter and overall length of the keeper is 4" These were expensive in their day and were found generally on more lavish homes of the period.

They measure 3" long and have been stripped(using commercially available chemical paint stripper from Home Depot) of many layers of old paint so they are ready for use either repainted or as-is, there can be repurposed as really cool coat hooks. The 6 in the photo are the actual ones you will receive, they are used so may be a little bent and discolored but i have discarded any that were too bad- if you need more let me know, you could save $$$ with combined shipping, thanks. Mixed Lot of 31 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Dogs In Clamshell Pattern As Found
Great collection of shutter dogs. 25 of them are very similar. Of those 10 are left sides and 15 are right. 6 others are of variations of the clam shell pattern but are obviously different. These are in as found condition and all were on the same house. Some are bent up a little bit. But none of them are broken, all of them are useable. Great pieces for an authentic, early restoration.
