The have a fabulous fatigued French look and are in great condition but they do have a little split in the bronze but they are still sound. Please see the photograph. A fabulous pair of tiebacks. I don't think that my photographs have done enough justice to them. They measure 4½" for the length of the back plate. When on the wall they will sit 4" proud. The space for the curtain is approximately 3½" wide and 4" deep. The combined weight is 332 grams. On the rear they are marked JD 375. I have left them as I found them but they would polish up. SET OF FOUR. LARGE, FRENCH ANTIQUE, SOLID BRONZE CURTAIN HOLD BACKS. This set of hold backs each have an embellished shield design to each end. They are made from solid bronze with a gold gilding. There is slight wear to the guilding. Projection from the wall measures 6 inches(15cm) The actual length of each hold back is 15 inches(38cm) All the four hold backs have a makers number to the reverse which is AD5186. This appears both on the bar of the hold back and also on the metal fixing bar. The weight unpackaged is 785g. They are in good condition for their age. It is in the Rococo style with an acanthus leaf surrounding a vacant cartouche at the decorative end. The length from the top of the tieback to the centre of the curve is 29.5cms or 11¼” The small back plate has a screw hole at the top for fixing it to the wall and it measures 9.5cms long or 3¼” The large size will mean that it will be able to sweep up a large curtain or drape. LA MAISON BONHEUR in the South of France a large and heavy pair of signed French cast gilt bronze ormolu drapery tiebacks. Each is topped with a scallop shell cartouche which is repeated on the ornate front medallion. The scallop shell is the symbol of Saint-Jacques. Dating to medieval times and associated with pilgrimages through France to Spain. It is found on many French decorative pieces. Textiles. Metalware and furniture. They are made of cast bronze with an applied gilding. Known as ormolu. It is no longer being made in the traditional way. Which goes back many centuries. It has been replaced with electroplating. Which does not give the richness or depth of historical ormolu. This pair has some loss of the ormolu. Please see the photos. This is normal for gilt pieces of this age. Whcih I am certain is bronze, it's got great weight and I believe dates from the early 1900's, it's beautifully decorated as the photos show. It is stamped to the rear with TD 5202. Although this is quite difficult to read. Through the passage of time it's aged wonderfully and now has the odd hint of verdi gris and has tarnished giving that magnificent aged look that only the passage of time can give. I have left it just as I found it but it would polish or paint if required. They are solid cast in bronze/brass and have an ornate design of swagged roses and flowers around an acanthus leaf. Including the screw they each measure approximately 11.5cm or 4.5" in length the diameter of the end section that fits onto the pole measures approximately 4cm or 1.5" Condition These finials are in good used condition having a lovely patina commensurate with age. I have left these finials as I have found them but I am sure that they would polish nicely if you required a brighter finish. The cups that fit onto the poles are slightly out of shape but they could be moulded back into shape once they have been secured to your pole.
