These two large brackets supported a shelf on top and held a dowel on the bottom, presumably as a towel holder. They were found recently at a local estate auction. I think they are quite old. And could possibly have been used on a train. They measure 15-3/4" tall x almost 4" wide. The depth with the top shelf support is 9" and the depth of the smaller dowel holder is 6-1/4" There is an extra hole near the base of the dowel holder. So it might have held something else as well.
