They are about 6-1/2" long and all have the original massive 4-1/2" screws with flat heads and washers attached. They all have some remnants of white and/or red paint in varying degrees of thickness. They are lighter in weight than I would have expected them to be so I'm not certain of the metal; I would think they are not cast iron but more likely steel. These are true antique. #5 Antique Shutter Latch Hardware from 1800's PA House, 14" Stops
This came off our 1800's Pennsylvania farm house. These attach to the bottom front of your shutter. The rod holds the shutter open. The small piece holds the rod end while not in use. Some of these might be bent on the hinge end. So look at the applicable photo carefully. I will be listing two sizes of these. These are the 14" overall. Antique Two Wrought Iron Shutter Stays Holdbacks
These two rare handmade by blacksmith shutter dogs stays holdbacks where given to me in 1990 when I was building an authentic New England saltbox to use on my house by a friend whose father had collected them. The father lived in Indiana but I do not know if that is where they originally came. My understanding is that these type were used in brick. Wood or stone to hold back the shutters and are from the mid to late 1800s. These have a beautiful design on the medallion which almost looks patriotic and they have their original black paint with some chips in the paint to authenticate their originality. They were never used on my house, but kept by me. Each is in two pieces, measuring the longest piece with the sharp point is 6" Measuring the top of the medallion to the base is 4"

Mixed Lot of 6 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Dogs In Clamshell Pattern As Found
Here are six cast iron shutter dogs from the late 1800s. They are in the clamshell pattern are just as found removed from a old house and have old green paint and a weathered exterior. Three have a projection of 3 1/4" from the wall surface and of the three there is one left& right pair plus one right handed. Two have a projection of 2 3/4" and are a matched left& right hand set. The one remaining of the six has a projection of 2" and is right handed. The stems are fluted and the bases measure 2 1/4" square and each require four#10 screws as fasteners. The shells are about2" in diameter and overall length of the keeper is 4" These were expensive in their day and were found generally on more lavish homes of the period.

Great collection of shutter dogs. 25 of them are very similar. Of those 10 are left sides and 15 are right. 6 others are of variations of the clam shell pattern but are obviously different.
