This large hook appears to be older and made from brass. However. I'm not an expert and cannot guarantee how old it may be, or what metal it's made of. I can say that it has a brass-tone and an older"patina. Everything about this hook makes me think that it's hand made, but I can't guarantee that either. The hook is slightly off-center to the left and the top edge of the base is not exactly symmetrical- one corner is rounded more than the other. This is also true of the lower edge of the top square of the base, and the bottom edge of the base. The tip of the hook is also not quite symmetrical. This is a unique and heavy hook. It weighs a little over 14 ounces. Its total length is about 5 inches long. Up for bid is a: Original. Antique, Primitive, Heavy Duty Brass? Copper? Hat or Coat Hook- Very Unique This is an original hook I found at an estate. I'm not sure if it is brass or copper. A magnet does NOT stick to it. It looks like it was a heavy duty hook since it wasn't just nailed or screwed into the wood, it actually would of gone through the wood and then attached with the nut and bolt. For a hook it is heavy, 3.5 oz by itself. It is just over 3 1/2" long including the bolt part, without the bolt it is approx 2 1/2" long. At it's widest it is just over 1 1/2" The nut moves freely up and down the bolt. I didn't try to clean it, it is just how I found it. RARE Antique Cast Iron 9" Barn Wall Hanger 1800's heavy duty made
RARE Antique cast iron wall hanger. Rugged made, for heavy hanging. Made in 1800's and is at least 150 years old. From back of wall plate that is 5-1/4" long and 2" wide, and extends to the curved hook end which is 9" long, weighs 2 lbs. Slide the old 7" piece hose off, and it will be back in its original condition. See the pictures to see how the rest of it is made. This is another of the cast iron hangers that came from the old barn of Senator Baisley's of Uxbridgge, MA. about 60 years ago.
