4 ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL GLASS PRISM TILES LUXFER 3-WAY DEW DROP PANEL TORCH
A group of four 4" square prism tiles in four different patterns. DEW DROP and PANEL patterns were produced by American 3-Way Prism Company of La Porte. Indiana who incorporated Luxfer in the 1920's. TORCH pattern was produced by Jupiter Prism Company of Davenport, Indiana. PLAIN was produced by Condie-Neal Glass Company of ST Louis. Although originally clear crystal, the magnesium used in the production of the glass has turned all four a pale purple from sun exposure(some are a darker tint than others) These prism panels were used in transom windows, primarily in commercial buildings to try and beam natural light into a long interior with windows only on the facade.The photos in the listing are stock photos for us so you know what we are selling and so I don't have to take photos of every set we list, but all are in about the ... moresame condition the edges were covered with lead in the big windows using I channel and I find a lot of flaking or chips when dismantling the big windows but as I've been cleaning them up I'm picking the best condition ones to send out so you can expect small imperfections around the edges on some of them. Frank Lloyd Wright Prism Transom Glass Lot of 6 Purple Sun Touched Tiles Luxfer
Antique Luxfer Prism Glass Frank Lloyd Wright Design Salvaged Lot of 6 Typically used in storefronts to transfer light at the turn of the century. These tile are around 100 years or older. As salvage, they have nicks, chiggers, and rough dark edges from the stained glass style. They are approx. 4x4" I have found that many are short of that 4" top to bottom. They appear to not be terribly uniform. These 6 are very close in color and size. There is only 1 little rough spot. And I mean slight to one tile on the saw tooth side. I find no rough spots on the sides that hold the Wright prism design. They are a darker purple from the sun. Bob Post Antiques will be listing 6 more that are not as dark as these in another listing. Estate Find. Purple glass tiles by SOLORAP 4" x 4" These were said to be from a greenhouse that was on the property and built in the early 1900's. Antique Luxfer prism glass tiles rebuilt with stained glass = window art
As city buildings became bigger. Deeper, and crammed together, the problem of lighting became a major problem going into the late 1800's. When your neighbors' properties are built right up against yours on three sides and your only windows are in the front, how do you light the back? Gas lamps and candles all the time? Electric lights aren't around yet, no help there. Enter the prism glass tile, bending natural light and sending it way farther back into your store than a noon time sun! Add tiles with their prisms set at different angles and suddenly you have light redirected to the left, right, middle and rear! Luxfer actually sent trained personnel to survey your building, it's surroundings, contents, and the way you had your store or office set up to make"custom prescription" windows. Very high tech for it's ... moretime. And it was all very successful until electric lighting finally arrived and became affordable. These tiles I have used in my rebuilt window are from the American 3 Way prism Company to the best of my knowledge. I don't know if they are from before or after Luxfer merged with American 3 Way. I combined these tiles with the red regular stained glass using all new zinc came for the inner and outer framing. The zinc came is historically accurate. Made by Chicago Metallic Corporation since 1893, they are still making the same products 121 years later! All is soldered solidly together and the metal has been"patina'd" to give it an old look. The glass is cemented into the frame, the same way regular stained glass or prism glass tile windows are done. The whole window has a fresh coat of glass wax on it, and has chains on each side ready to be hung for display. One dew drop tile has a small chip on the prism side(see photo) And one of the plain tiles has a small chip on the face side(see photo) They are VERY minor, the pen in the picture is a fine point for reference. Antique Luxfer prism glass tiles and stained glass sun catcher
Prism glass tiles from the early 1900's combined with a nice red stained glass have been combined in new zinc framing. The zinc has a nice"aged" coloring. These tiles originally would have been from a large transom window from a commercial business. From pre-electric times. These tiles reflected light into stores and offices of buildings. There is very minor chipping on a few tiles(they are around a 100 years old after all) but it does not take away from the whole piece. I only mention this to be accurate in my discription. Also included is some chain for hanging, which can be removed if you want to display the piece in a different way. I custom designed this size to fit in a large flat rate post office box to help keep shipping prices down. Measurments are 23 1/4" wide by 11 1/4" from frame edge to frame edge. Vintage Luxfer Glass Prism Tiles Sawtooth Ten 4"x 4" Squares Purple Amethyst
These tiles are ever so charming. They feature sawtooth details and have been salvaged from antique window panels. They are 4" x 4" square and the listing is for a total of 10. The photos make it look like they are different shades but they are actually similar shades. The tiles are in nice condition for their age but do have some flea bites. Rough edges or minor chipping. I have cleaned them, but they will probably require another round of cleaning. They would be perfect for art projects, coasters, tables, a backsplash and more.
